1888-O Morgan Hot Lips in Basal State 0 ...

I was thinking about something. The PO1 Hot Lips in my Grading Set really has no date nor a mint mark. It just has the "lips" and they could tell the coin date and mint mark by knowing there is no other Morgan Dollar variety with this feature. I was wondering if this would be a possibility for a Basal State 0 grade?

I would like to know what all you folks think.

Nah, need to wear it down to one lip.

  • You would have to somehow eliminate all detail except the doubled lip.

I think that it is possible to do, but it wouldn't be from natural, even wear.

Sure...take it to a coin show...most dealers downgrade raw stuff at least one point anyway! image

Ownership adds a point, so it's really Fair. image

Congrats on the new acquisition. Let me know what that Hot Lips that just ended about 30 seconds ago looks like. I would have bid higher but was pretty sure there was a chance it wouldnt slab. Pretty high grade though.
I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.
