Key to Collecting:
At a casual glance, the 1919-D is a common issue among cents from the Denver Mint-unless, that is, you desire a choice or gem specimen that is well struck and with original color. Such a coin is a rarity. Many pieces with original mint color are mottled or irregular.

Striking and Sharpness:
Most show lightness of striking in some areas, particularly at the center of the obverse and the periphery of the reverse. Wavy surfaces from overused dies, particularly on the reverse, are often seen.
