But attractiveness doesn't seem to be your governing factor....

Major struck through on reverse. Might be a wire or string. Very cool error.

my first reaction was a scratch and then circulated. what signs point
to your conclusion so that i may learn from them?

Usually scratches don't curve like this---they are usually more straight. Also, a scratch this deep would show displaced metal.

Actually, the reason I like that 1966 Quarter so much is because it is believed to have been 'passed' by Elvis.

would not have circulation moved the raised metal downwards or
simply wore it off? thig seems to like it for non error reasons.

if what you say about elvis is true would that not account for the frenzied bidding and not the possible error? I say possible because
i do not have the coin in hand and it looks like a scratch to me...
  • dthigpendthigpen Posts: 3,932 ✭✭
I honestly don't know which of the factors brought in the value, it was purchased by an educated collector though. Your guess is as good as mine. I'm not an error specialist, there was just a good story behind the coin.

With those brown spots on the reverse, I wonder did he put clad quarters in his strange peanut butter sandwiches?

I can't really imagine the intestinal pain that would occur if it really did 'pass' and wasn't just thrown up or pumped.
