So I went to this party in Los Angeles last night...update.

Hosted by Larry Goldberg and his wife at their beautiful mediteranean style home. It was in the backyard around their swimming pool.
There were parking attendents for the estimated 75 people or so that were there. Mostly all professional coin dealers. I recognized many faces, including Larry Stack, Bob Higgins, Don Kagin, the fellows from Northeast Numismatics and many others.
Good food, ( baby lamb chops, elaborate cheese/veggie/fruit plate, sushi, crab cakes, chicken strips and much more and of course an open bar).
Yep, eating, drinking and talking coin. What a swell time.
I felt a bit out of place though as they were there for the Goldberg pre long beach sale and I am thinking the millenia sale to take place today. If you get a chance tune into this historic sale.
Most of these fine dealers have clients they are bidding for and the word I got was that 90% of the coins won't reach the bourse.
Still, this was alot of fun to socialize with so many dealer under the beautiful california skys and I was all ears.
Did you know there really is 'coin funds' and wall street money coming into the hobby to buy coins. Yeah.

I would guess this photo dates around the 1940's. From what I know about the history of beer, breweries, taverns, and bars.......Back in those days most bars (not niteclubs), but "shot and beer bars" were a men only establishments. These bars sometimes had a separate entrance to the dining room area where women were permitted, but women were not allowed into the bar area. By the 1960's with the women's movement the days of these bars being a man's domain died. Probably the most famous of these was McSorley's Old Ale House in Manhattan which finally had to permit women starting in 1970.

PS I had to regretfully decline the invitation because my daughter had a dance recital last night. Suprisingly, she was the cutest daughter in the entire theatre.

Excellent, Jerry. You can always have dinner and drinks with a bunch of coin blowhards. The experience you had last night cannot be duplicated.
Edited to add: I would rather have some of those moments back than have a top pop modern coin...or a top pop Dahlonega coin.

I'd have found a way to do both, if the party was important to building my business. Sadly, it has always fallen on me to actually PAY for the dance lessons... The ice skating lessons... The clarinet lessons... The cars... The house... You get the idea - it has to be a balance.
