AU Details "Corroded"- Can this Morgan be preserved?

Can a silver corroded coin be saved or preserved somewhat? The seller claims it had a rubber band stuck across the obverse that caused it to be corroded.(Didn't know that was possible?)

    The corrosion cannot be undone.

And yes, rubber bands can cause corrosion.

Seller's right. Not sure what can be done. If it can be NCSed into an NGC 50 holder, I guess it might be worth your while.

Maybe it can be made to look better than the black mark it has now, depends how far into the surface it goes.
Ncs would be the place to check however the cost if it can be done vs. the coins value may not be prudent.

that corrosion might go away if you carry it as a pocket piece for a few months image

How will the cyanide help? Seems to me that the sulfur in the rubber causes black toning just like other sulfur species do. not sure why they call it corrosion. eZest might be just as effective cept its usually not a good idea to dip circulated coins.

Same here. I don't feel it can be helped in any good way.

Rubber bands contain sulfur. Some people call it toning. Others call it corrosion image

When toning etches into the surface to the extent that there is a visible change in texture, then it's corrosion.
