How much silver is in "junk" sterling silver?

I know it probably varies, and maybe more importantly, how much would a typical metal buyer give me for junk sterling, forks, baubles, old cream cups and such?

Sterling silver is 92.5% silver. Not sure how it could vary.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I've heard some places won't pay for knives because they don't know how much of the shaft (hidden in the handle) is silver as well.

Did you know Sterling Silver got it's name from Rob/Ron Sterling on the Twilight Zone Series. I read somewhere that in England a company rep met with Mr Sterling because they wanted a Far out metal added with pure silver so they thought of Mr Sterling and the Twilight Zone. image That's how Sterling Silver was invented.

    It was Rod Sterling.

Expect about 80 to 82%% of spot. A bit more if you have some real weight - 500+ oz. To max your value, remove any non-silver from the mix such as the weights from candle stick bases or the blades from knives. Weighted or mixed metals are heavily discounted.
