Huh? I thought some people might be interested in some 1989 Score rookies for very low prices? I have NO idea why I'm getting so much heat. I have sold some on Ebay, but I have a lot of them. If not interested feel free not to buy them, but why all the negativity?

I guess your reputation preceeds you. Thanks for the heads up Lee

Probably wont be posting much around here any more under that name anymore I would guess

I gotta tell you, I just found this board and have enjoyed it, but I have absolutely NO idea the problem with selling these 1989 Score football rookies, I'm about giving them away. I did sell some on Ebay but if I can sell them on the board or another board then why not?
Despite the opinion by some of you in this post, I'm an honest and fair buyer/trader/seller and I thought this board was full of adults, but I guess I was wrong.
Have the decency to contact me if there is a problem, I sure would appreciate it. I'm not changing my name and I will remain on the boards to buy and maybe sell but according to this post I probably won't be selling any 1989 Score football rookies.
Feel free to Email me at Mphilking@comcat.net and let me know the problem.

Mphilking, have you clicked on this link? Maybe you should and then you would understand why nobody is interested in doing bussiness with you. It has nothing to do with 89 score rookies, it has everything to do with the big time hassle a respected board member had with you over a previous deal.

What the problem seems to be from a disinterested third person, is that you sold some "unopened packs" on ebay that a reputable person from this board purchased, and from his description, they were not "unopened", but "resealed" instead. Then, it appears that you played games with his refund holding it up because the gum in the "resealed" packs was broken (as if anyone was going to chew it anyway). He had to file a paypal claim to get his funds back, and it then appears that you attempted to file a non-paying bidder strike on him when he obviously paid or you would have never sent him the "resealed packs" to begin with, nor would he have had to file a paypal claim to get the money back if he had never paid you in the first place.

The correct response initially would have saved you the grief, as well as saved your reputation on this board. That would have been to offer up an immediate and full refund when you learned the packs might have been resealed. Doesn't matter if you didn't know the packs had been resealed, that's totally irrelevant. Good, honorable sellers stand behind their products and in the off chance they make a mistake, they step up to the plate like a man, and make it right.

No I did not see that link thanks for showing me, now the hassle makes sense!! It's untrue but makes sense.
Since no one bothered to ask me my opinion on the validity of Lee's accusations I'll respond. Those packs were ABSOLUTELY NOT opened regardless of what Lee said. Lee initially presented as a very reasonable person, but that changed quickly. He also showed you parts of Emails not the whole thing. I told him he could send the packs back to me since he was not happy for a FULL REFUND, as stated in the Emails on the message board, why would I do that if I were going to rip him off? The packs were sent back with previously full sticks of gum broken into pieces, (this is very easy to see in any wax packs I'm not sure why that seems to be a problem) and rips on the wax paper, which were not there prior to me sending them to him. Of course that decreases the value of the packs. The packs were not opened and resealed, I actually thought Lee did that, but after having them reexamined they were not. Lee decided not to tell you that he opened a pack of basketball and pulled a Walton and three other star/rookie cards that he said, "aren't a common mix". Lee was wrong on this one and I did resell the packs on Ebay. Several buyers of the packs I sold Emailed me back with how great the cards were and ALL left positive feedback other than Lee, they were not chumps or did not know how to tell resealed wax as Lee would probably state, they just opened them and luckily found good cards, I believe one buyer had them graded by GAI. I forgot all about this nightmare with Lee.
I have never sent wax into be graded and I did not send these in to be graded. I did have them checked out before I bought them and after they were returned to me from people that know unopened wax material. I've purchased a great deal of vintage wax in my lifetime and consider my level of expertise at or probably above Lee's, he did not want to hear that. He jumped to incorrect conclusions and after my being willing to give him a full refund for the packs, he sent them back without showing any regard for packing them carefully and several of the packs were damaged it had nothing to do with finding out they were "opened" I can ASSURE you they were not. I am not a scammer or a rip off artist but I am MPHILKING and my name, reputation and character are all of utmost important to me. You do not need to know my resume and it does not mean that I am a good or bad person, but I have a Master's of Divinity(studied for the ministry), Master's of Social Work and work as a mental health counselor. My Ebay feedback is over 3100 it is at 99.9% positive, check it out Mphilking, that also does not define who I am, but either the vast majority of the 3100 positive feedback are wrong or Lee is, I'm sure it is Lee.
I'd be glad to answer any questions on the topic and hope that I am given a chance to buy and sell on this board. I don't have any more wax, because I'm too chicken to buy and open it, I just buy the cards I want instead.

Thanks Winning Pitcher. I'm not trying to beat Lee up, although I don't appreciate that he seemed to do that to me. It was a bad deal and I left it until I got all these negative comments. From the vast consensus on the board Lee is very honest. We may have just started and ended on the wrong foot which happens. I do know he was incorrect with his assessment of those packs, and I stand behind that. I also know he did not pack them with any care or securely when returning them to me and they were badly damaged. He also rec'd his money IN FULL back through PAYPAL and I lost out because he damaged the packs. They were unopened and not resealed, there were no roller stains on them or the cards, which I may still have. Just asking for a chance. I don't sell vintage wax anymore so you won't have any problems with that!

Just for the record, I don't think Mphilking is a scam artist or looking to take anybody. I do however feel he is misguided, stubborn, and represents himself to be knowledgeable about things he isn't, and flies off the deep end when things don't go his way. Take it for what it's worth, it's just one man's opinion.

He has just as much a right to post here as I do.
  • MPhilKing,

The one thing I truly do not get is your "certainty" that Lee must not be correct in asserting that the packs resealed. He pointed out several concrete facts about his experience with resealed packs (roller marks, iron marks, collation, etc). Are you ignoring those signs, or are you contending that he was flat our wrong in claiming they were there?

You talk about your reputation and divinity degrees, but what about the clearly stated facts Lee presented when examining the packs? The logic simply doesn't add up that "Lee is wrong" when he so clearly laid out why he was certain the packs were resealed.

Lee has been on these boards for over 3 years and has traded knowledge and cards with several of us during that time. He has earned a highly respect amongst these boards and many would consider him a trusted expert when discussing vintage wax and buying/selling on ebay. Your stubborn claim that "those packs weren't resealed" just doesn't seem to hold water when paired along side Lee's claim.

I'm not saying that you're a bad person. I just don't see how Lee is wrong in his claim that the packs were resealed.

This will be my last post in my defense in this issue. I did not say Paypal took money back from Lee I said they refunded money to me. It's obvious Lee is wonderful board member and trader/buyer/seller. Most of you seem to think Lee is a saint and expert in wax, which he very well may be, but this seems to qualify me as a thief and clueless about old wax. He may be a saint, but that is not a reflection on me. The problem I had with Lee is that gum was broken and packs were ripped, that is fact. Broken gum is not trivial at least to me it isn't, I also care about rips in the wax because of the broken gum. I responded to his concerns about the packs as best as I could, because he did not see that he wasn't satisfied with my response.

Before and during the Paypal dispute I contacted Lee to end this amicably, he then said he just wanted his full refund, I don't know what else to do about that or how to fix it any better. Paypal did refund him, as I and he said, he never returned the 15% for damaging my packs as he and I said. I did receive $153 from PAYPAL as an adjustment, as I said. The proof I provided to PAYPAL was HUGE scans and the comments from previous buyers and people that looked at the wax. Here are the lists from Paypal.

" Jun. 1, 2007 Transfer From PayPal Balance Adjustment Completed Details $78.00 USD -$32.00 USD
Jun. 1, 2007 Transfer From PayPal Balance Adjustment Completed Details $75.00 USD -$110.00 USD
May 13, 2007 Reversal To Lee Biars Completed Details -$200.00 USD -$185.00 USD "

Regarding the roller marks, Lee insisted they were not consistent with what Topps did. I know how wax packs got closed, I was commenting on his problem with the packs and his comments about the roller marks, not how they are sealed. He stated there were burns on the packs inconsistent with how Topps sealed them, there were no burns to anyone's eye but his, he said the cards showed the marks which were not consistent, I have the cards right in front of me nothing is out of the ordinary.

Trust Lee feel free I'm sure he deserves it, I would trust to deal with him again too. I'm not suggesting anything but that in my opinion and others his assessment was incorrect. Everything was fine until my packs were damaged and packaged without care back to me, I 100% stood behind them. That's my problem with Lee, I had no problem he didn't want them I stood behind them and offered a refund, but after they were damaged I wanted compensation, I sent them fully insured double wrapped in bubble wrap to him he sent them delivery confirmation and stuffed in a box to me. Lee is saying he'll take his word over the word over myself and 10 Ebayers and that is fine, he is lauded for his confidence and knowledge. Yet, when I am sure they were not reseals and trust the people who looked at them I am considered ridiculous or lying.

STorm you are right I would not decline if Lee offered to send the packs on his dime. Lee, you never said you would send those packs to Steve Hart, you suggested that I send them to him after you returned them to me, and I do not recall any mention of you paying for them to be looked at. You stated he may do it for free. Why didn't you send them to him when you had them?

TNTtompms said As in a post I saw before , anyone is allowed to post here and it is true nobody can stop you , but what good is it if your name or your word is worthless ?
Does anyone find any confidence on my Ebay feedback and %age? For the record I did not say nobody can stop me, I said I wanted to post here someone responded saying that no one can stop me from posting here, that was not my comment. I believe posting is in vain unless there is some trust, which I have no problem establishing if I am given the chance.

TNT also said do what I could to make it good, right. I don't know what else I could have done. I had packs checked by me and two other sets of eyes prior to buying, and then after returned by Lee, I contacted Ebayers who purchased packs after Lee, no complaints. If something you sold was returned to you damaged wouldn't you want compensation? If wanting to be compensated for that is wrong, I will accept 100% blame for this problem. I do not believe what I was asking for was too much.

Lee or any other board member what can I do to make this right feel free to Email me or PM, I've already made a few purchases here and was occasionally going to list things to sell. I promise you all if I ever sell something knowingly unauthentic I will never post on this board again.

It is possible that an UID was filed for the purpose of obtaining a
"mutual" cancel; such filings are done to get the seller's FVFs back
from EBAY, and do not result in a strike against the buyer.

Buyers often take offense at these filings, but there is no other
way to get the FVFs back.
