Some eBay coin sellers just seem to attract trouble... why?

All these tales of woe from some eBay coin sellers strike me as odd. I have never had any trouble with coin buyers on eBay.

What is it about some sellers on eBay that seems to attract trouble?

I have some suspicions, but let's hear what you have to say.

You are lucky if you never had to deal with a deadbeat bidder that tells outright lies about making the payment or one that never responds.

And now these deadbeats will be able to give a neg to the honest seller who is trying to complete a deal.

I agree...either I've just been really lucky or I take decent pics and give an accurate description. I suppose it's a combination of both.

I have never had any problems either with over 1,000 sales transactions on two different accounts but thats not to say it won't happen.

The message forums is a lot like a newspaper in that folks always remember the bad stuff but never remember the good stuff. After all, we like reading about horror stories. I'd start a thread about how I sold this or that and the buyer received it and posted good feed back to which I retaliated with my own good feed back but nobody would really care.

I guess what I'm saying is that folks only feel the need to report the bad stuff so it appears that nothing but bad stuff ever happens.

Good point Lee, its hard not to remember some like The Peanut Problem that a newbie evidently thought was funny after leaving the neg.....

Musta been some pretty disgusting peanuts!

I remember buying a bunch of mint and proof sets off the forums from another member and he shipped them in a box full of packing peanuts! I PMed him to let him know how much I hated packing peanuts to which he replied, "So do I which is why I sent them to you!"

Now, I love packing peanuts! Not because of what was said but because they really save a ton of weight when I ship stuff out! Whenever I receive a pacage with packing peanuts in it I save them in my bag of packing peanuts for later use. Those things are really expensive!

There really are a lot of buyers who hate packing peanuts. That actually isn't the first example of a neg posted because of them. There've been quite a few discussed in the feedback forum in the past.

I'm a Power Seller with a rating of 1700+. I find that 99% of those sales turn out great. But I always have 2 or 3 that give me problems. A small price to pay. Plus, I block any people that I've or another Forum Member have had trouble in the past.

better than 99.9 % of all transactions go just fine but when you do 500+ a year you will find that .01% , the guy you can't make happy or who claims they never got that package etc.

1 jerk out of 1000 is not too bad.

My favorite story about packing peanuts happened at work. We had one of our contractor equipment installers visit our office and we thought we'd give the engineering group the benefit of this guys experience installing and maintaining our gear. First off the bat, the installer asks for, "a loaded pistol and two minutes alone with your shipping department."

It was said as politely as a death threat can be uttered in a room full of people with ties... After the initial awkwardness of the moment passed, said installer further, and somewhat more professionally, elaborated on the evils of packing peanuts.

He had some valid concerns (about litter and jet engine FOD - foreign object damage) and our company has ceased using the troublesome peanuts.

Not so much related to coins, this story, but tangentially related to the thread.

REASONS.

Ship 5 days after being paid in 5 minutes.

Whine when asked a question.

Give a BS answer when asked about a coin picture.

Thin skin and expect everything to be perfect in their own mind.

Sell marginal items as primo material.

Charge 5 bucks for shipping and then put the item in a envelope.

Worry about Feedback and probably bug their buyers about the Feedback.

Finally they just like to cry and whine here when any little tinsy, obscure, miniscule, microscopic, glich (in their mind) shows its ugly head within one of their listings.

Whenever I get packing peanuts I put them into a plastic grocery bag and tie it off so that nothing will spill out. Works great as a light weight space filler without the mess. Better than throwing them away, considering that they won't degrade for 1,000,000 or so years.

Hmmm. "robjennings" came back as "an invalid ID". On May 20th he changed his eBay ID to "ppptech" Wonder if he lurks on this forum? BLOCKED. As for the rest...many/most of the customers I've had have been good...fast payment, good communication, positive feedback. However, I am currently in dispute with a non-payer who didn't reply until I filed a dispute. And then claimed he was out of town and had just sent the MO. That was a week ago...still nothing in the mail. There's always a few bad apples in the bunch.

That one jerk can cost an honest seller a lot of grief or a lot money especially if Paypal is involved.

I reuse styrofoam peanuts when I recieve a box full of them. However, I put them in the plastic bags from the grocery store and tie them shut. No mess for the recepient. --Jerry
