Game Time!! Remember Mattel Electronics Football 2...1978...

I am getting rid of all of the stuff I don't need....even though sometimes I think I still need it...

It's a little dusty, but it works fine. I even have a wall adapter on for it (with about a 15' cord!)...it will go to my eBay store tomorrow evening, but I thought I would throw it out here first. $20 delivered....

PM me if interested...

Thanks,

Dang, does that bring back memories. I was glued to one of those things for what may have been the better part of a year.

I've got a baseball somewhere, those games were more fun than the $50 games you buy today.

  • Thank God I'm not the only one old enough to have owned these games. I still have the baseball that I've had for around 25 or more years. I bought the original football game at a local garage sale about 4 years ago.

    My first thought too image

I used to play the crap out of that game. Im sure my parents hated that as much as parents nowadays hate kids texting or listening to ipods.

Great photo samspop, thank you for that!!

    joe
  • Yep, when I was mad at my mom I would break one of the games out and would play the hell out of it. Until she made me go to my room.

    That's a cool item!

Do you have the original box that it came in?

If so - what does it look like?

Wow, that brings back some great memories! I think mine is packed away somewhere in my parents house (although they may have thrown it away for all I know). I used to have the baseball and basketball game too.
  • samspopsamspop Posts: 1,993 ✭✭✭
Mike...no box, just the game. There are a few on eBay in the orginal box running for about $90....that's why I figured @ $20 shipped to you was pretty fair....I think you need this!!
  • Did someone say Atari??

I have the baseball and basketball Mattel games.
  • StingrayStingray Posts: 8,843 ✭✭✭
Just to show you how old I am, we would get one of those almost every Christmas, started with getting the autorace electronics game, then football I, then football II. Dad got the basketball I game. I had the basketball II game years ago too, would love to get one of those now. That was my favorite of all the electronics games mattel made.
  • samspopsamspop Posts: 1,993 ✭✭✭
Believe it or not, I have this one, as well....minus the box...

I in fact had one with the Atari adapter all in original boxes but sold that around 12 years ago. image

I used to be unbeatable in Electronics Football 1. I could hold the ball for a full half before scoring. When the other guy got a chance to play, if he scored early, I could just hold the ball until the final seconds and score. My mom used to hate the sound of that thing.

Not ashamed to admit that I've been known to have that game on a shelf in my office in the last year.

The Best game HANDS DOWN was Nintendo Ice Hockey IMO!!! Any of you remember? The real big guys and their powerful slapshots, pummelling the skinny guys LOL!!

    image
  • Give me a team of 4 skinny players and we could beat anyone at that game.
  • Downtown1974Downtown1974 Posts: 7,002 ✭✭✭✭✭
Lol. That was a great game Paul. My father and I spent many late nights playing that.

    Thanx Mike.

But, I'm not ready to go to the 70s yet - I'm budgeted for games in the 50s and earlier right now - and there's so many!

These pics bring back GREAT memories!

Personally, this was one of my two favorite electronic baseball games...(one on the right)

    image

...and this was the one that I 'upgraded' from...

    image

....I used to keep score (like the 'real' keeping score) and set lineups and use the baseball cards to envision the players at bat. Sheesh...great memories!

Arny, those head to head games kept me busy for hours. The worst was when the battery ran out and I had to get my mom to take me to the store to get a new 9 volt.

Anybody remember the Speak & Spell?

I LOVE the Mattel games. I have all four sports, and still occasionally play Football II. Greatness.

Stone, you didn't really need a calculator when you were in college because they're not really helpful in dealing with Roman Numerals.

Did anyone play the green football game after holding down KICK and powering it up. The defense flys around on steriods and I don't think you could score consistantly on the highest level.

I bought the Donkey Kong version of that off Ebay a year or so ago for cheap worked great, played it for a few months and sold it for a few dollars more than I paid for it. I believe there are one or two of those Coleco tabletops that are hard to come by.

What was the name of that robot (something like R2D2, but not) that you would stick 8-track tapes in?

    Edited: Found it.

I also had, can not remember the name a electronic game by Mattel that you could change the face plate on it and it would play different games. It came with a breakout type of game. It was about 3.5 inches wide by 8 inches or so tall.
