"To cover the cost of the auction" WHOA! I can't believe eBay hasn't nuked that yet!

A rules violation, to be sure. At least the seller spelled it out.

Interesting. Shut down this guy for excessive S&H (because it cuts into ebays take). Leave the Savannah Scammer alone because it creates profit for ebay. Hmmmmmm....

Yeah - personally it doesn't bother me that much. Like it's been said before, just adjust your max bid. 11 bucks for that proof set isn't a terrible deal.

Ever win a $6 single coin on Teletrade or another auction site and have the delivered
cost $25 or more? It's always up to the bidder to determine total cost --bid/buyer fee/taxes/s&h
and then make an appropriate bid.

Ebay is a for profit company. Let them worry about policing "excessive shipping." It only affects
ebay's profits...it is of no consequence to a bidder.

If you want to get auctions for fakes shut down, that's one thing that helps the coin community. But
I am sick of the all the unending complaints about "excessive S&H" ebay auctions on the PCGS forum.

I do have to agree with you on this one, Frank...

Geez...if the S&H is low you can bid more...if it is high, bid less...if you don't like the terms, move on...

...some folks here are just in dire need of a life beyond ebay and this forum...

...come to think of it...that probably includes me...image

All mine got pulled because my pic's of my slabs were like the one below and not the whole slab. SO I told the ebay rep to shove it up there *** and close my account. I am proud to say I am no longer a power seller or a registered user.

I sold over 40K on ebay a couple of years ago. I think since January of last year, I've sold a couple hundred bucks on ebay. Personally, I'd rather cough up a 20% discount to a collector or trusted dealer than MAYBE make an extra 5% after the fees to ebay/paypal.

I used to think that ebay would be the death of brick and morter shops. But I think ebay has increased their fees enough and decreased seller satisfaction enough to insure that brick and morter shops will survive.

I still buy on ebay, though.

Live in Texas and buy a 25 dollar coin from Heritage. It will cost over $50 dollars delivered. Buy a cheap coin from David Lawrence Rare coins and it will be 15 percent plus shipping fee. Teletrade is the same way. YOU DO NOT have to bid on any ebay auction you personally do not agree with the sellers terms. Wait for another auction to come your way or Suck it up. Personally i factor everything in when i bid. Most of the time i will not bid on an auction that does not take paypal, that is just me. But WHY do YOU feel it is your job to be the ebay police? I sell quite a bit on ebay and 90 percent of the time i get the warning in red stating my ship fees look high. $10 bucks for a 35 pound bag of wheat cents? 8.95 for flat rate, .45 cents for tracking plus renforcment tape, bubble wrap etc. I am going to make a killing. So items i overcharge and some i undercharge. I am not trying to rip anyone. But i sure do not understand somebody surfing just to report items to ebay. Why do you feel the need to stick your nose in someone else's business?

Point in fact that the seller specifically stated that he jacked S&H up to avoid costs (fees, one assumes).

    Oh, well.

Fee avoidance does not bother me. As long as the shipping fee is stated clearly I will bid accordingly.

Bad sellers have hurt ALL good sellers.

    I don't report non-fraud violations, BUT I have no
    problem with folks who do.

Once "FREE" shipping is required, the inflated-S+H issue will be moot.

Seems to me if you have a group doing the "fee avoidance" thing then Ebay going to raise the cost of selling to everyone. Isn't this an ETHICS thing everyone is so concerned about? Can't have it both ways, I've seen coins from China selling for a song (more than likely fakes) with huge shipping fees.

    Yup.

And, you're right: "...cannot have it both ways."

BUT, most of us have a love/hate thing going with EBAY.
That makes it easy not to care when they get ripped. Even
though that rip is eventually paid for by ALL of us.

It is stupid for the seller to tell he is jacking the fees up to cover his cost, but it is his deal not mine. Sometimes auctions like this produce the best deals since others are not willing to participate. I prefer new ebayers with little feedback selling nice coins and not listing paypal. A quick phone call ( or email) to the seller, has produced a lot of nice coins for my collection. Not everyone is out to screw you. I just try to cover the bases and protect myself.

Do i have a problem with it? I do, because i do not want someone sticking there nose in my business that is not involved. Seems like being a tattle tale in grade school. lol You do not believe he is playing by the rules, and you want to be a keystone cop. In a perfect world there would be no issues, but this is and never will be, and no matter how hard you try...

Then you must not mind insurance fraud either. This seems to be rampant in our country now days trying to stick someone and justify it. Let's see I get in a car accident and claim I'm hurt to get more money out of the insurance company. After going to court and paying off the liars they raise all of our rates, but it's okay since I pay so much in premiums, right?

There is a difference between a seller charging high ship fees and insurance fraud as you posted. We all suffer over the raising of premiums. But 1 guy over charging for shipping affects HIS buyers not the rest of us. Ebay fees will not have to be increased over this.

ksteelheader- I now understand why you report now after reading your post. The insecurity in your self shows by reverting to name calling etc. If i really cared i would bet your pocket change collection that you were picked on by your class mates. Most likely you were last person picked for the team. Employers have done you the same way. I am not sure of the clinical name but i call it small man syndrome. The satisfaction you get by reporting others makes you feel important and worthy of taking up space in this universe. I suppose you also drive in the fast lane at precisely the post MPH.
