The centerpiece of my collection !!

I'm in my glories right now! I just picked up what I would consider to be THE centerpiece of my collection. Of course I have to wait for it to be delivered image I personally think I got a helluva steal on it. No COA or LOA but the sigs look VERY good to me. Once it arrives I will more than likely send it into PSA/DNA for authentication. I stumbled upon the auction too late to get a quick opinion from PSA/DNA.

Anyone that knows me KNOWS I am practically obsessed with the 3000 Hit Club. I am super thrilled! I can't say it enough.

Anyway, here are the pics borrowed from the auction itself. I'll take my own pics/scans when the ball safely arrives image 8 of the oldest living members of the 3000 Hit Club:

Player/current age:
Musial - 87
Aaron - 74
Mays - 76
Kaline - 73
Rose - 67
Brock - 68
Yastrzemski - 68
Carew - 62

The next step would be to get a seperate ball and get the remaining 11 living current 3000 Hit Club members signatures. They are: Yount, Brett, Winfield, Murray, Molitor, Gwynn, Boggs, Ripken, Henderson, Palmeiro & Biggio.

And - Jeter and A-Rod would more than likely be the next two on the list sometime within the next 5-7 years.

Great looking ball but man you have some balls to buy autos without any coa or at least psa quick review. Good luck on that at psa.

Why put the others on a separate ball? I'd try to get as many as possible on that one...

Thanks lol Indeed it's risky to buy signatures without authentication but I really feel good about all of the autos being legit. The ONLY one that even made me look twice at it was the Mays. And that's only because it "hooks" at the end of his sig and doesn't "loop". The others are spot on. I'll say this....if the ball fails PSA/DNA or JSA for any reason....that's one spectactular forger! (Not that I condone that kind of garbage at all..just saying how stronlgy I feel they are real). image

    AJW,

Of course that would be the best way to approach it (all on one ball). From what I can tell there doesn't seem to be enough room to get 11 more sigs on that ball, unless they overlap and/or are crunched in. I'll have to get a better look once I have in hand.

If I seperate the sigs.....the ones on this ball would represent the members from the 50's, 60's & 70's. The next ball would be the members from the 80's, 90's & 2000's.

If it's possible I would love to have them all on one single ball.

That makes sense. I'd still have them sign this ball until there's no more room. Then start the next.

Either way, it's a great item. Congrats!

Thanks ajw. I just caught that piece you picked up...AMAZING. You got a great deal on it for what you paid. I could only hope to find a litho like that of the 3k Club. Congrats to you as well.

There is a very similar 3000 Hit lithograph, but I think it sucks. The painting is just not of the same quality as the 500 HR lithograph, and the players look out of proportion and unnatural.

I'd love to have a 3000 Hit litho if it was a nice as the 500 HR, but I just haven't seen one.

I agree with you 100% on that 3000 hit painting. It's pretty ugly. I think I would still buy one just to own it...if the price were reasonably low. Otherwise I'm with you...I would want one that matches the quality of the 500 hr litho.

    That ball's a beauty Jay!

The sigs look real to me.

I wonder how many 3000 hit collectors we have here?

It's on my future list but right now I'm not doing it.

    Congratulations and thanx for sharing.

Thanks Mike and everyone. I've always loves the 3000 Hit Club but have always been torn between collecting just Rose or all of the members (in some form or another). When I saw this ball I just couldn't pass it up, I had to have it! image

    Thanks again,

    You're welcome Jay.

I've posted before - but I was very fortunate to pick up one of the GU balls from Brett's 3000th hit game a few years ago - the auto is weak - but that's not the key anyway - it's the ball that gets me excited.

I got lucky and it went very cheap - it's PSA/DNA certified and has a certified letter from the ump behind the plate that night. The poor sig is what condemned the ball and people may have let it go - but they missed out on a piece of BB history IMO!

Here are a few that I found online.

    My 500 HR lithograph:

300 Wins (there are 3000K and 500HR that are similar, as well):

    And 500 goals, as well:

    AJW,

Other than auction house sites are there any legit sites where to look for auto's items such as the ones being discussed here? And, which auction sites would you recommend?

    Thanks,

i am sorry but having molitor in a twins uniform is not right. he should be in a brewer uniform on those things. if carew is in a twins but not an angles why shouldnt molitor be in a brewers uni?? nearly all of molitors stats came in a brewer uniform. he only played what 2 or 3 years for the twins.

Yeah you got that cheap. I was going to snipe it for a c-note more that you paid but had to go to the denstist after work and goofed on setting the bid...

I like the combination auto sigs like that. They're impressive for the collective accomplishment.

I'm glad you had to go to the dentist! image Just kidding. Otherwise you would have pushed it up to nearly my max bid.

Not that I plan to resell at all, but I'm curious as to what a ball like this would typically go for. Basically, did I get a steal, good deal or pay the average price? I assumed a ball like this would go in the $500-$750. range or is my guestimate too high?
