Ebay virus has mutated again!

BarberianBarberian Posts: 4,643 ✭✭✭✭✭
The Ebay seller, Seatedlibertykeys has apparently changed his name (mutated) again and is now Seatedbustkeys. I just don't understand why all the name changes. Anyway, this apparently is a coin in his first listing under a new handle. Gotta love the look of this coin! Gotta love his response when told that it has been tooled!

A seated half collector has notified me that he feels that Liberty's legs have been tooled. After reviewing the coin, I agree with him. In the interest of full disclosure, the obverse of this coin should be considered tooled. That being said, I have never seen such tooling on a Seated coin. So I am unsure of what exactly has been done.

This is one of the worst tooling jobs on a SLH I have seen on EBay of the dozen or so I have seen in the past year. Mr. Seatedlibertykeys has never seen such a thing before. Please! The coin was probably used as a broach and now has been retooled for sale on the coin market.

Alert the Center for Disease Control!

edited to add "again" in the title.

Someone once told me that"Pigs don't know pigs stink."

If that is true, maybe something that has been tooled, would not be recognized by a tool. image

If that doesn't make sense, cut me some slack it's late.image

The coin is not right, but are we sure it was tooled.

Chris is a 22 year old kid. He buys problem coins and sells them without disclosing the problems.
I've seen him take beating though, buying off Ebay and reselling there.

Perhaps, then, it is time for another beating.
  • The 1857 Half above has been amateurishly colored with bleach too..

I suspect that Ebay has far more people that are either scammers or/and completely ignorant when it comes to buying and/or selling coins. Most buyers burned on Ebay are burned by there own ignorance and/or greed.

If it's too good to be true it probably is.

If you do not know your series well, that extra 10-15% you think your saving buying off Ebay rather than a known Professional Dealers will probably cost you allot more than you thought you saved.

There is no substitute for years of experience and knowledge. 1 bad deal can kill the upside of 10 good deals.

And last but not least, many legit items will bring much more money from a Pro Dealer than Ebay, Ebay is far from the real mkt when it comes to prices. Before selling on Ebay, check with a few dealers on there buy prices, you may be surprised to find they are paying more than what Ebay buyers do. How? In a nutshell, many Ebay sellers use the Grey Sheet as a guideline for buying/selling coins. Fact is the Grey sheet is off on many issues, either too high or too low and if you do not know this you could be leaving far more than 10%-15% on the table.

It looks like a chisel was taken to the top of the legs. Tooled? You bet.
