great web sites when pitchers were men

www.baseball-boxscores.com
and
www.thebaseballcube.com
FYI look up the game logs for pitchers like
G Perry in 1972
C hunter in 1975
W wood in 1972
L Tiant in 1968
D chance in 1964
B Gibson in 1968
etc. look ho these pitchers pitched some time 9, 10, 11, 12 and even 14 innings in a game
also, S. Lyle in 1977 pitching almost three innings in the 3rd playoff game vs Kc and coming into the game in the 4th inning the next day and finishing it, with the pennant on the line, and then closing out game 5 with no off days.
In the USA all men are created equal but some are more equal than others....

This is my favorite of all time though...
(from marichal's wikipedia page)
<< <i>One regular-season game in Marichal's career deserves mention, involving him and Milwaukee Braves' Hall of Famer Warren Spahn in a night contest played July 2, 1963, before almost 16,000 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. The two great pitchers matched goose-eggs until Giants superstar Willie Mays homered off Spahn to win the game 1-0 — in the 16th inning. Both Spahn and Marichal tossed complete games, something that almost certainly will never happen again in the big leagues. Marichal allowed eight hits in the 16 innings, striking out 10, and saddling eventual former career home-run king Hank Aaron with an 0-for-6 collar. Spahn permitted nine hits in 15 and one-third innings, walking just one (Mays intentionally, in the 14th, after Harvey Kuenn's leadoff double) and striking out two. The game, almost the innings-duration of two contests, lasted only 4 hours, 10 minutes. >>
By the way, when the game above took place Spahn was 42 years old!!!!!!
also did you know that had Cat Hunter pitched 13 more innings in 1975, he would have completed every game that he started.

I don't think throwing the knuckler was as tiring as the fastball but that's a LOT of innings!
I remember reading how Denny Mcclain threw 226 pitches in one game in 1965 or 1966.
also check out how many 1-0 games fergie jenkins lost in 1968, i believe it was 5.
