I cannot stand to read the Beckett boards. All of the members have the 13 -years- old-and -I - have-the-world -by- the- balls mentality. Most of the threads are stupid and show what reading the stupid stuff they put in beckett and watching jackass will do to your mind.
As for this case. Beckett handed out guns and ammo to scammers with the Beckett Raw Card Review. If this guy got scammed for his card, he knew where he sent the card to so why not file a case then? If you wait for the card to change hands for a while and then go after it you deserve to lose. I don't think the seller has much to worry about here. I can understand his responses being the way they are, I am sure his inbox has been filled with threats and angry emails from all the 12 year olds on Beckett.
Allen, He did file a police report the day he found out the rcr's were not on the up and up They just haven't tracked down the scamster yet as he goes by fake names. I also recall the scamster trying to push these faulty cards in parking lots at big shows too.
EDIT TO ADD:
He did not have a address to send to.. As the scamster has done all his work in person hence no mailing addy.

Didn't the guy making the trade look at the cards with his own eyes. He would obviously see they were not gem mint quality. Buy the card and not the holder!
I thought it was an in-person trade. In any case the first owner had the cards for several days before the police report was ever filed. I am sorry, but he really is SOL. He got scammed.
Best solution in the whole deal would be for the guy who has it now offer to take the 15K he traded for the card and split the remainder with the original owner. To me that is the best solution as they were both the victim here.
I don't think the guy who has the card now should be giving the original owner anything. It could have changed hands 10 times between before he got it. Someone could make a fake thread about a card and say they were scammed out of it and then wait for it to hit ebay and want it back for free. All of the guys on Beckett are taking his word on this and they cannot prove he met a guy in person and traded for that card. I actually believe the guy got scammed, but I don't know that as a fact because I was not there and it has not been proven beyond reasonable doubt. Its not what you know, its what you can prove. alberts best bet is to track down the guy who scammed him and get his compensation from him. For a $30K burn, I am pretty sure I could get a good PI to track the guy down.
Some of you might remember some of the cards were offered on eBay at one time. I remember a couple of the cards from this scammer....whoever he is. Anyway, one was a 1994 SP A-Red and another was a 1986 Topps Steve Young. I think the Young looked like a very nice card and possibly was a 9.5 if graded (ignoring any previous knowledge of this "scam.") If all the cards were that good I could see how someone could think they were 9.5's. Not that I understand why someone would trade as if they were 9.5's. What would you do if the cards and trade were legit, but BGS decided they were 9's before they slabbed them?
Anyway, I just wanted to note that the Young looked very good and I checked the A-Rod auction, because of all the foil on that card, and could not see signs of tampering (from the scans at least) with it.
Clear Skies, Mark
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

The guy that pulled it made his mess.
