Anyone near VA to buy a collection?
This guy fell in my lap. He's in VA. Has a guy coming from NY to possibly buy collection this week. He posted the 1st batch on ebay but since pulled them as he was making a few errors. He's looking for other options as I explained NY guy will pay very minimal. Started asking me for info. Started as me being a bidder then he reads my about me and starts asking ?'s. Rec'd brothers collection as he passed and it's from 40's to 70's. Appx 3000 in all. He has knowledge of who the big names are. Cards from 60's and 70's I saw were average VG-EX+ A Few possibly Nrmt. Anyone interested? I told him I'd ask around. Im too far away (Ca.)
Here's his last email below . Whats funny is he knows the good players though. Common knowledge?

<< <i>Evidently the guy knows nothing about spelling either, LOL! Sounds like it may be an interesting find. What is he asking for the collection? >>
He doesnt have a set price. He's unsure of their value. He was looking for a easy way to sell them. Was listing them on ebay individually but seems afraid of giving them away due to lack of knowledge. Not looking to get rich either.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I would definetly proceed with caution.
<< <i>I smell a rat. The guy obviously knows about cards or why would he mention Andy Pafko? Only collectors would know the significance of his #1 1952 Topps card. All the other guys mentioned are household names of Hall Of Famers, but Andy Pafko? Not so much...

I thought the same thing about Pafko. He also knows about the condition scale as well, as he labeled them Excellent, near mint etc..

This is an easy call. This sounds like a scammer talking from a mile away. He'll hook you soon enough if you keep talking to him...he's got his scam "sales pitch" down pat...just like a typical con artist does.

I definately wont buy it sight unseen (via mail) and seeing if someone is willing to meet up with him. No risk there.
Also I should mention he's not too knowledgabe as he listed 1987 Topps Bo Jackson, and a few others that are no bid auctions.
None of his past FB is from cards.

<< <i>No, not a April Fools joke. Guy had 20+ 1960/70 auctions listed pulled them as he was offereing 100% refund if not happy. I said thats not a good idea as the buyer might not like the condition ( not worth of grading) and return it. Also all pics were sideways/bad pics etc.

Well he obviously listed it on ebay to find some victims. Fortunately, you are not a victim...YET, unless you continue to pursue this. Believe me...he already knows you're sceptical and he has all the "right answers" in place to con you as best that he can...this guy is a skilled con artist. If you are foolish enough to give him any money or personal information...then consider yourself conned. Hopefully, all you will waste is your time even communicating with this criminal thief.
