I cant see your pics from work but you might try a penny or 2 under a corner of the slab so there is some angle, might help lessen what you see from the plastic.

If you go to the second page of the thread, you will see how I cut up a milk gallon jug to diffuse lighting. Thread

I use it mostly on proofs, but I have also used it to get pics of lincolns through pcgs slabs. It may help. A lot of other peoples setups are on here also. Good luck!

You have got a glare issue more than anything else. Gotta back the lights away a little.

Bingo! Try to get the lights as high as possible without letting the camera block them. Also, are you using manual focus or auto? With glare the auto will want to focus on what the lights are glaring off of, the plastic.

    Nice seated dollar though!
Want to buy an auction catalog for the William Hesslein Sale (December 2, 1926). Thanks to all those who have helped us obtain the others!!!

this is a great thread you have linked here. I have two questions for those that posted there.

    1. With all of the different jimmy-rigged setups, how many of you are using point and shoot digital cameras, and how many are using SLR?

    2. I noticed that many of the cameras are positioned a good distance away from the coin. What is the average distance you are positioning the camera lens from the slab surface in inches? Also, I'm assuming you're using the macro setting here. I've had a hard time imaging 3CS and other smaller coins when the lens is farther away.

    Thanks!

I use an SLR with a 150mm lens. This allows me to fill the lens with the coin from several feet away allowing for the most light and a much faster shutter speed.
