That's one of my points - a high post count that consists of 90% icons and a member for only 6 months doesn't inspire confidence for me.
I think the longer a person has been on the board and contributes with substance counts better in my book.
Are you saying that you would buy a $2,500 coin on the BST from someone who has 2,005 points and joined only 2 months ago? Go back and look at the posts from that person and you are buying on smileys and other icons? No thanks, not me.
I WILL buy from someone I recognize on the board that has established a sound reputation, regardless of the post count.
I do accept the giving back reasons that a lot of people have expressed, though. Particularly when the giveaway is for YNs just getting started.
Interesting answers on this thread, nevertheless. And like I stated in my OP, I asked the question out of curiosity and nothing else.
Because it's fun. If you could have seen the look on my 5-year old's face when he got his "winning" package from Boom, you would have to agree. I also agree with those who say that it is giving a little something back to everyone on these boards who has helped them better enjoy and appreciate their collecting. I, for one, do not have friends who collect, and I greatly enjoy being able to share my collection with other like-minded people. I also get to see beautiful coins that I would never have the opportunity to see in person.
In appreciation for all of these things, a giveaway at a predetermined point seems appropriate, and adds to most people's enjoyment of this forum.

Is it a meaningful accomplishment or benchmark?
I fully realize some people are on the board continuously for various, legitimate reasons.
But why give away a coin just for posting, in many instances, just an icon?
It seems to be a self-feeding phenomenon, with people lining up for the giveaway by the droves.
This does seems strange to give something away when a milestone # in posts has been attained.
It's about as crazy as "WInner, Pays"....Doesn't that make you the LOSER !!!
