Why do People Celebrate their Number of Posts?
First off, I'm not being mean-spirited or anything. I've been a member of the board for six years now and have always wondered about this.
Why do giveaways for posting xx,xxx times on the board?
Is it a meaningful accomplishment or benchmark?
I fully realize some people are on the board continuously for various, legitimate reasons.
But why give away a coin just for posting, in many instances, just an icon?
It seems to be a self-feeding phenomenon, with people lining up for the giveaway by the droves.

that is why i had give aways just to say thanks to everyone here
for the heck of it.
i can see 10,000 as something to make sport of due to choosing your
title but i am not quite sure where or how it started here.
maybe an old timer can fill us in on why that tradition started?!?
Not an old timer but I see the 10K thing. I just could not figure out what to give away. And had similar thought as to why people do it.
I have seen giveaways at 100 posts up through a gazillion posts. Best one so far was from SG with an MS65 Saint.

That was awesome.
It's just something people want to do.....not HAVE to do.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.

<< <i>Don't look a gift horse in the mouth or something like that. Any giveaway for any reason is good as far as I'm concerned >>
Bingo.
And giving something away is kinda fun. I enjoyed my 1000th post giveaway. The winner seemed very excited. It's not like you have to give anything away or are even expected to, but to criticize the practice is poor form IMO.

Who criticized this practice? I think it's a legitimate question, and there are some interesting answers that explain it quite nicely.

I'm not cheap, I'm poor.

People have giveaways to show their appreciation for the knowledge they've picked up from these boards, at least that's how I see it. What better time to do it than when you have a nice, even number of posts? Say......... 851?

Yeah, that was kind of fun.
For those who don't know, I was feeling lazy and didn't feel like sorting, cataloguing, and imaging, so I listed a 47 coin "mystery" type set on the BST for fifty bucks.

I was told that if you wanted better grades on submissions, to do a giveaway on the boards.
My statehood quarters graded MS 64. Then I had a giveaway and the next batch graded MS 66.

JUST BECAUSE I FELT LIKE IT!
Also, high post counts usually give people more confidence on the BST. Would you buy a $2,500 coin from someone here who you have no prior relationship with and has >100 posts?
Other than that, I have no clue why people do this!!
<< <i>It might come from obsessive-compulsive which is described as in an offhand manner to describe someone who is meticulous or absorbed in a cause. Such casual references should not be confused with obsessive compulsive disorder. It is also important to distinguish OCD from other types of anxiety, including the routine tension and stress that appear throughout life. Although these signs are often present in OCD, a person who shows signs of infatuation or fixation with a subject, object, or displays traits such as perfectionism, does not necessarily have OCD, a specific and well-defined condition.

An apple a day mixed with laughter might fix the world's problems.
Of course, your analysis and a picnic basket sounds pretty good, too.
