Is it impolite to send a coin dealer an e-mail on the weekend?

I sent a check out on Tuesday for a coin and I was considering sending an e-mail to see if he had received the check yet. Do any dealers check their e-mail on the weekend?

E-Mailing on a weekend is no issue.... if they check their e-mail, and choose to respond, fine. If they wait for Monday, it is no different than if you sent the e-mail Monday.

Now I do not feel it is necessary to e-mail a few days after mailing a check.

Unlike the P O email can be received and sent 24/7. You can send anytime you want, just don't be miffed if you don't get an instant reply.

As mentioned before you can send a email anytime, you may or may not receive a reply. Although I think a lot of business work on Saturday.

  • Now that everyone has a computer, well, MOST everyone, email could/should be expected almost daily, especially if he is a coin dealer. He may very well answer it today, definitely not tomorrow, but if he doesnt answer till Monday, it wouldnt surprise me. I must add, either you are very courteous, or you want the coin bad and quick.....probably both, though...image

Then again, depends on how far it had to go. Sometimes I can get something from Teletrade, in CA in 2 days (when it should probably take a good 5 days), and something 50 miles away takes 5 days (when it should, realistically, and its the norm, take 1 day depending on time of mailing, 2 days MAX). Does the dealer know how hot you are for the coin? (I re-read it and yeah, you are certainly being courteous, but I can sense the anticipation in getting this coin..may I ask what it is you picked up that you want this badly?)

No it is not impolite to send a coin dealer an e-mail or even an order over the weekend. image

Send anytime, but do not be offended if he does not reply until Monday or Tuesday.

I agree. You can send e-mail anytime you want but don't expect a reply outside business hours.

Not if they want to sell a coin.

I'm not a coin dealer, but I generally don't even check the date or time on my incoming emails. I do however, send a lot of emails at midnight and only expect a reply the following morning. So I would say it doesn't matter. image

Dealers should be set up to take electronic checks like the DMV. image

Then there would be no waiting.

If he doesn't respond within one hour, you should neg him for poor customer service.

Depends on what you say in the email.

  • He will only be too happy to hear from you since your sending money his way. Hey, you can email me anytime if your sending money my way. image
  • I had e-mailed PCGS' own Ron Guth about the availability of a couple coins on his site on a Sat.
I was suprised to get a quick responce they were and to call in the order.
I was more suprised when his wife(?) answeared the phone "hello".
But she did take the order and the coins were great.

I sure hope not. I frequently send emails to my dealer on the weekend. He responds to them rather quickly too!

In general though, I agree with CaptHenway and the others. Send anytime, but don't be offended if you don't get a quick response.

Not at all. Most coin dealers are happy to receive emails and will respond when they get the opportunity.

Sometimes I check email at 2AM in my pj's. So as long as that doesn't upset anyone then sure, fire away

We have to go to our bank this coming week to pick up a scanner which will allow us to make deposits without ever having to go to the bank.

  • I sent the e-mail and he responded quickly and said he received the check and the coin should arrive Monday. Woo hoo! image

Is the post office open on Monday?

Just do it - if they are working they will read it, if they are not working they will see it on Monday!

I don't see one single problem with it. They dont have to check if they don't want to, but I could understand a dealer getting annoyed a ph call at home during off hours or weekends.

Not impolite to send it on the weekend (or in the middle of the night, for that matter), but it's impolite to expect a fast response at those times.

I don't think it's impolite to send a coin dealer an e-mail on weekends. It's another matter if you decide to call a coin dealer at home or on their cell phone during red-eye hours and call multiple times when they refuse to take your calls.
