    Uh, no. I took my wife, and two sisters (yes, practically kicking and screaming) to the Baltimore show a few weeks ago. After following me around the floor for about 2 hours without buying anything, she said "why don't you just buy something so we can go". Little did she know I was REALLY interested in a 1909 IHC in MS66 with a CAC sticker. I just couldn't pull the trigger on that one. So, I followed her advise and picked up a 10oz silver bar...

    My punishment was I had to drive them around Baltimore to see some shop where some guy makes cakes. He has a show on some TV.

    My wife has a rule, whatever I spend on coins a sum equal to or greater than must be spent on her. She really encourages me to purchase coins.

    My wife has decided to take up collecting coins with honest wear, and has no problem with what I spend on coins as long as they aren't clad and I don't go over my weekly coin budget.

    Mine would listen with intense interest as I showed her and bragged about my latest purchases... now both her and my collection are ex's .... now I keep my mouth shut ...

    experience is overrated.... foresight is better

    My wife did when I was showing no responsibility. I got compulsive wanting all kinds of coins I saw about 6-7 years ago and like an irresponsible brat I racked up some CC debt. My wife, usually being non confrontaional and laid back took one the statement after racking up $2,000+ in one month, taped it on the bathroom mirror with a note ext to it that said "CUT IT UP!!!!". I work midnight shift so when I woke up about 2pm and saw it I felt really bad guilt. At that point I decided to back away from buying and dedicated about a year to paying that thing off and sold alot of my collection to do so. Now, a few years later I set aside about $150/mo for my coins and when I accumulate anywhere from 3-6 months I go to the local B&M and splurge and my wife is none the happier because when I buy them now there's no interest tied to it. I can honestly say that my collection is much smaller than when I used the CC, but the quality is much, much better. I have no regrets for selling off most of that stuff to do away with the CC debt.

    My wife is VERY supportive of my interest in coins. She knows what they are worth and she views my collection as sort of an "extra emergency savings plan" in addition to our normal savings and retirement savings. She actually views my collection as MONEY SAVED! How lucky can a guy get!!!

    Nop, my wife wishes we had more money for my hobby. Shes the fun I have and loves to watch. I think she's even starting to wonder about coins too.

    No weapons needed. She makes her own poison cloud...she is away right now- hugging a cactus or scorpion - and the kids and I are all smiles at the air quality index. In the decade-plus it took to research and write three detailed books, plus dozens of articles, and struggle with unemployment and a new career she contributed not one iota of encouragement, support, warmth, joy or hope, and not a single sou of financial assistance. Now…for the negatives of the insignificant other and coins…..oops—can’t do that, might burn out my computer screen!

    She did one time. Then I gave her a $1000 shopping spree with the profits from the coins I bought. She hasnt said a ngative thing to me about buying coins since that time.

    Yeah FatMan. You need to recalculate the score after 2-3 years to get the final score. image You win in the end. What can you do with women though? They're prodigious consumers of crap that depreciates. (shoes, purses, clothes) Of course men are too with electronics. image

    Nope, she approves of my coin hobby. Her hobby is dressage (4 horses that are expensive to care for), so I don't get any grief about coin purchases.

    Your wife must have amazing concentration. To enjoy a sport where you sit in a non-moving horse for what seems like hours is incredible. (I used to photograph the shows in the Middleburg/Potomac area years ago.)

    Well well well now.... You just hit on a nerve..... My wife has always been the spender and me the saver!! It has been that way since the day we were married.... My money is our money and her money is her money!!! I just learned to deal with it and move on....

    Well fast forward 10 yrs from our marriage and I get into coins!!! She see's the little pieces of gold, silver, copper coming in the mail... She see's me spending 500 bucks here 3k there and sometimes more for these things that say 1.00 or .50c on them.... O my gosh did that open the flood gates of my wifes spending....

    I now ship anything I buy to my office.. As far as the wife is concerned I quit buying coins quite some time ago and I may "trade" a coin every now and then, but no more outflow of cash...

    It really sucks to fib to the wifey.... But for every 1k I spend in coins, she justifies 2-4k on junk that ends up in the garage that is worthless in 3 months...

    Well thanks for the venting.. Probably more info that anyone really wanted to know lol!!!!!
