Official Monroe Spouse Order Thread

ProofCollectionProofCollection Posts: 6,906 ✭✭✭✭✭
Just placed my order for one of each. On Backorder (no surprise).
Website a little slow but not bad at all. I don't think this issue will be very popular at all.

Kind of funny, the Madison spouses are sitting below the Madisons at a much lower price...

  • got my order in. i know there are many naysayers about this set - but I am committed to having a complete set. I am planning on leaving them all ungraded. yes, the mint's website was much better than previous releases.

  • I was really surprised about how easy it was to order. Not popular at all anymore. I'm probably just gonna sell off all these spouses in the near future.

I agree this coin is not very appealing. I think they should have put the white house on the reverse. More interesting than another depiction of the first lady in front of a mirror or painting. One proof for me ordered in 2 minutes with some lag time but not much.
  • I ordered the unc, 28330xxx. Backordered until 03-06-2008.

That's because it's a ladies coin and ladies like looking at themselves in the mirror image

It just ocurred to me, maybe the website is fast because of the "new provider." We'll have to go by order numbers. I think this will be the least popular spouse yet, but I am comitted to a full set as long as I can afford it.

    First order 283304xx, last order 283316xx. That's 1200.

On other spouses there were 10,000 orders and 50 minutes between my first and last orders.

My conclusion is this spouse is DOA.

  • Order #2833xxxx placed at 12:11 est.
Not shaping up for a sell out. At over $1200 an ounce its no wonder.

image You are giving the Mint way to much credit here. I doubt it's a new high powered website, most likely a dog of a coin that noone is ordering.image

I agree the service provider was the low cost one since they couldn't reach an agreement with the one they had. They may have off shored it to India, we'll see on the high demand item if it's an upgrade.

On the sprit of this thead I didn't buy the Monroe but did pick up the UNC Dolly for $509. That's way to close to spot and won't be at that price for long IMO. I'm not sure how good of a indicator the order numbers will be this time around after they see the big price difference and the spot price for gold.

So in a couple months when spot is $1150 will you buy a Monroe?

It's funny how the high prices of today become more acceptable as bullion prices rise.

I really don't chase PM's much no days and haven't brought much since gold was under $500. I buy my $5 comms and my plats I need for my collection and will pick up PM's if the price seems right and I think it still has legs. One of these days we're going to have a big correction and everyone will be back to the "sky is falling". I think the mintages of the old coins are going to see a big spike and if this continues this maybe a pattern that keeps mintages near the max.

Even though I'd only purchase them to flip, I'm passing this round.

I'm willing to bet that unopened boxes from the mint will be available below the mint price within a couple of months.

If I'm wrong, I can always buy them direct at these prices--they'll still be available for months.

    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!

It's not exactly a dog in my eyes. Just over priced. There are just to many other good coins that have priority for me.

Yes! blatantly overpriced even according to the mints own standards.
  • ProofCollectionProofCollection Posts: 6,906 ✭✭✭✭✭
It won't seem so overpriced next week (or two) when gold hits $1040/oz.

The future really doesnt count, since it could also be back to $800/oz or less.
  • My order 28330xxx went from "on hold" to "in process" today with a delivery date of 03-11-2008. Hopefully early next week.

I was disappointed. I ordered mine, and then I saw they were available to buy in person at the ANA show in Phoenix... or at least the Unc was. I could have picked mine up and ran it right over to PCGS.

That will change. It's always been 1 month after shipping starts. Which is today, 3/18. I don't thing PCGS is changing there policy.

  • I spoke to CS and First strike cutoff is April 3. Any1 have the coin # for submission?

Well I guess the policy changed. No long one month. ONLY 2 weeks for First Strike. Should be good for the population of FS, if you get yours in on time.

  • gainseville already sold 2 proofs and 1 unc on ebay. That lidting started on the 11th I think.

    I see....

"ProofCollection" - stated they were on sale at the Phoenix coin show. I guess those of us who put our orders in over the internet are second class. Why do people at the shows get theirs before us??

    Screwed by the Mint again.

  • I received mine this morning. Nice coin.
