What 70s rock icon shares his born name with a well-loved numismatist? A complete answer will include the numismatist's name, the performer's stage name and his band. The first correct answer will get something neat.

    Marc Bolan = Marc Feld

(Actually since it's "Mark" Feld they don't share the exact same name, is that close enough?)

RICHARD SNOW AND THE INLAWS (Nottingham)
The Nottingham band had a very infectious sound which covered many bases such as the combination of country and reggae on ‘Lonesome Cowboy’. Richard Snow was a good-humored front man and the set got better and better. ‘Expectation’ had a strong lyric and the band had more willingess to experiment than most.

The "well-loved" part of the clue kept me from finding the answer. image

You have won a Bashlow Restrike Continental Dollar in Bronze! If that isn't the height of Glam, I don't know what is...

I tried to find a coin or token that incorporated a top hat and glitter, but came up short.

    That's because you are America-centric.

T-Rex outsold the Beatles over the peaks of both their heydays.

T-Rextasy was what the newspapers around the world called it back then.

Marc Bolan always knew he would be killed in a car crash even when he was a child, so he intentionally never learned to drive.

At age 29 he was killed when his wife lost control of their car and struck a tree. No drugs were involved either.

That tree is now a celebrated and well decorated sanctuary where his fans still continue to maintain and decorate.

It's a virtual holy place to millions. People from all over the world continually come to visit the location.

For whatever reason, most likely because he was ahead of his time, T-Rex never made it big in the USA.

Only one song ever made it to the top of the charts here, "Bang a Gong" and that wasn't even the real name of the song, the actual title was "Get it on", but there was already a song by that name recorded in America, so it was changed for the USA release.

A huge number of successful artists credit Marc Bolan for their inspiration, including David Bowie and Elton John, just to name a couple. They both played backup to his band and were included in a few of his videos. Yes, he may have been the first to do video releases of his songs in the early 70s.

The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and it does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose."

I think he was referring to the numismatist, not the musician....

    That's cool.

I just had to add to the trivia.

Obviously I was, and still am a huge Marc Bolan fan.

  • I think I object to this contest because birth certificates were not required as proof of born name. I also object to the term born name, unless a definition is given. I want a "do-over". I also object to the phrase "well-loved" and its' specific definition. You also broke the rules by awarding a prize when the bands' name wasn't stated. I am starting to think this contest was fixed. How about James Taylor??? Maybe that doesn't pass the "well-loved" part of the question.
