most killer (currently) modern box of 20 set in 100 years
I was just think what 20 coins would you take with you to 2108 (money no object and the coins can be found with easy, if we are dreaming why make it hard)..
only rules...
1) must exist in private hands
2) must be dated 1964 later
3) must be currently legal to own
here my picks...
lots 1-5 extremly rare 1964 SMS
lot 1. 1964 SMS penny
lot 2. 1964 SMS nickel
lot 3. 1964 SMS dime
lot 4. 1964 SMS quarter
lot 5. 1964 SMS half
lots 6-8 'Golden Dollars'
lot 6. 2000 'Cherios Dollar' Sac
lot 7. Quarter/Sac undated mule one of only 10-12 known. (figure at some point another will show up)
lot 8. 2000 'Goodacre' Dollar
lot 9. 1969 S double die penny
lot 10. 1982 no P dime 'Sandusky'
ok so I can only think of 10 atm.. but I am guessing they all would bring heavy money and strong bids.

I would also add:
1999-W 1/4 oz. "Unfinished Proof" Gold Eagles
2006-W 1 oz. Reverse Proof Gold Eagles
2004-W 1 oz. Proof Platinum Eagles
2006-W 1/2 oz. "Burnished Unc." Platinum Eagles
I knew it would happen.

<< <i>1976 bicen proof Kennedy struck at Philly. Four exist.

I'm aware of the Ike, but not that any such Kennedys exist. And are they available, or would you have to rob the SI?
As for another addition, the 1975-S, no-S proof Roosevelt dime.
Also, at least one transitional error: (1964 clad, 1965 silver, 1983 bronze Lincoln)

<< <i>I'm thinking that the Inaugural Strikes of the Sac Dollars might be interesting. I can't remember how many were made, but not many. I would also add: 1999-W 1/4 oz. the gold ones?
1970 S Small Date Proof PCGS MS69 DCAM
Since these two are popular anyway, and there will always be strong bidding for the best of the best.
Russ,
Do those coins lack the S mintmark? Or is there a different way of distinguishing them?

They lack the S mintmark. I think they were struck as presentation pieces.

Well, actually - you WOULD have to include the 12 Gold ones, too.
The Sac Dollar Inaugural Strikes were done (in the regular alloy) during the first striking ceremony and I am guessing that the number was somewhere around 300. They were given to the dignitaries who attended.
I knew it would happen.
Jackie Robinson $5 ms
Library of Congress $10 ms
60 years into this hobby and I'm still working on my Lincoln set!

Something from '70 mint set. (PL half, MS-68 sm dt 1c, MS-68 P 25c, MS-67 FS '70-S 5c, etc)
This is a tough list because it has to omit a lot of very important and rare coins. It's obviously slanted a little to quarters.

Oops. There are a lot of great Jeffersons that could be on it. Note that the '70-S FS gem got a mention.
Jeffs are the toughest for me since it's so very difficult to find high grade coins.

..And, of course, the '68-S FS could make any list even now.
Now them is some rocking choices
any suggestions on jefferson refrence books other than nagengasts analyst?
The series seems so neglected by most. And I was wondering the other night how many people
consider this a closed set after 2003

<< <i>This thread would be an entirely different animal if it were limited to regular proof and business strike issues instead of trial pieces, patterns, errors or scarce varieties. >>
But for most of us, those are the coins we go gaga over, something I doubt will change in a 100 years. I know if I knew what I know now and it was 1908, I would be buying up.. trial pieces, patterns, errors and scarce varieties.
