Why are the Silver Britannia's so expensive!

  They have a premium associated with them as soon as they come from the Mint. Not all Silver Eagles have that immediate premium.

  Mintage numbers are fairly low, VAT tax may be associated with them, and the pound is 2:1 vs the dollar so the Britannia should be 2:1 to the ASE ... LOL Kidding on the last one...
  
  I think the key is mintage numbers. I will google and verify

  Britannias aren't sold as "bullion" like SAEs or other silver rounds. The BRM keeps a lid on the mintages (I think the silver Britannias are limited to 100,000) in order to justify a premium.

  I recently purchased a few Britannia's from APMEX. They arrived very scratched up and I returned them.
  
  APMEX replaced them but sent me an email stating that if I wanted unscratched Britannia's in the future that I
  should find them from another source.
  
  The email further stated that the coin was sold based upon Silver only, thats why they are so inexpensive.
  
  Personally, for me, a coin that sells for over 2 times spot is a little more than a bullion coin.

  Though called "bullion coins" by the Royal Mint, they are primarily geared towards collectors. They start off expensive and most of them stay expensive.

  Yes some sources are rough.. look for them in the individual packaging for nice coins, the rolled and bubble pack coins take a bit of a beating. Mintages are 100k unc, roughly 5k proof. And yes, people report no milkspots.

  yes Apmex sends scratched coins - often clinking around in the envelope upon arrival - not even in a flip. They treat them like trash, which is why they looked more trashed than even when they probably go them in.
