Copper For The Weekend

Being doing alot of selling lately. Both a good thing, debt relief, and a bad thing, coins gone. At least the coins are going to collectors who can appreciate them! image Looking forward to this one arriving next week from 66RB: image

    I still like this one....

And, same coin shown twice in the photo....difference was playing with the contrast/lighting for the pictures to get the different looks of the coin, depending on the angle/lighting. Only missing the coin as it looks without the right lighting/angle...where it looks brown (as is the case with many toned copper pieces).

Take care of that 1914 Lee! That's my favorite 'dupe' coinimage

Here's the one that it is a dupe for...

Back in the summer of 1972 I was a 17yr old at home and after getting roll after roll of pennies from the bank, one night I found this! I still remember sitting on that bed, pennies spread out everywere. It was hot and late, about 11pm ...and I found it. I ran out to my Dad who was sitting in the Living room reading, pushing the coin in front of his face yelling" I found one I found one !!!!! " As I stood behind him he got out is magnifying glass and said. Yup, you did!

One time at about age 20 I was dead broke and ready to sell it and Mom bought it from me for $60, which was the going price then. It sat in the safe until last year when I cleaned out all the personal stuff and there it was....

So now I submitted it to PCGS, it came back a MS63RB.....well, it had a fingerprint on it when I found it!, so its not mine anyway....

Newps 3/2/08. The wives of Constantius I (305-306 AD).

#089: Helena, first wife of Constantius I and mother of Constantine the Great. Later became "Saint Helena" to the Christians.

    image

<< <i>Helena AE3 Securitas standing left, holding branch and raising robe. >>

    #090: Theodora.

    image

<< <i>Theodora, second wife of Constantius I, AE4 Trier struck after her death AD 337-340
FL MAX THEODORAE AVG; Diad. and dr. bust r.
PIETAS ROMANA; In ex: TRS; Pietas stg.r. holding child in arms
    RIC 79; 1.43g; 15.4mm; VF >>

And, though not a newp, here's Constantius himself, since I just posted his wives.

    image

I bought the top two coins Monday morning.

Yesterday, Friday afternoon, the second one (the Theodora) arrived in my mailbox.

From...get this... THE NETHERLANDS, of all places. The seller is in Holland. The other coin (from a seller here in the USA) hasn't arrived yet, nor is it even really overdue. I'm just astonished to order a coin from overseas and have it arrive in barely FOUR DAYS. Big wows and rave reviews for Gert Boersema, the Dutch ancient coin dealer on VCoins.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
