I believe I did make it to that Santa Clara show. That coin looks even better in hand! I love proof Walkers especially those with some cameo. This one has more frost than any I've seen.
I also saw this coin at last spring's Santa Clara show. All I can say is wow. It is the best looking proof Walker I have seen. It looks like today's proof ASE.
<<The presentation of an image that has undergone significant work in Photoshop hurts the credibility of the overall image of the coin, in my opinion.>>
The 3'rd image doesn't seem as real as the other two.
However the testimony of several of us who have seen the coin in hand bolsters the credibility of the images.
The coin, in hand, looks like the third photo and again looks very much like today's proof ASE. When I saw the coin I was blown away at how it is so far superior to any 1936-1942 proof Walker I have ever seen.

I also saw this in hand at the same time and it is breath taking.

Having seen this in hand and as Carl states with the testimony of several credible forum members it was necessary to show what it looks like in hand as the camera does not quite do it justice.
Huh, I see this thread is making the rounds again.
Thank you very much everyone for the nice comments about the coin!
For those of you that would like to see it, I believe that in about 1 1/2 months the Santa Clara show will be here again. I'd be happy to bring the coin to the show again. I normally go to the SC show on Fridays for those that are interested.

Ever think of crossing the coin with PCGS ?..the cameo effect really shows out with PCGS's holder.
<< <i> Ever think of crossing the coin with PCGS ?..the cameo effect really shows out with PCGS's holder. >>
It also really shows out with NGC holders too.
I may crossover to PCGS when I eventually get around to selling it (which the Good Lord Willing won't be for many years), but I don't really see the point now. A dealer who specializes in Cameo coins thinks I ought to resubmit to NGC to try for a UCAM as he thinks it's the deepest cameo Walker he's ever seen. I doubt it would UCAM, but it would be nice if it got a Cameo* which would make it the only one in the entire series.

Now why would he do that?? If he ever decided to sell this coin, he would have a list of bidders a mile long and then some. This is by far the best Walker I have ever seen. As to what TomB says about photoshop work on the 3rd image. I did blacken the image soo I could get that life look out of the coin. Maybe one day I will be lucky enough to get to try this coin again with newer techniques.

Last Cameo Walker sold on Heritage in 1995.....the other point is that PCGS grading standards may or may not be a 66 cameo Had to put that in for all the NGC naysayers
<< <i>Legend has a 1936 Prf 65 that they say is " 95 %" Cameo..only 6,250.00 >>
1936 is by far THE toughest year to get a cameo from in the 1936-42 proof Walker series. I haven't looked at the Pop reports lately, but last I saw there were no 1936 cameo Walkers graded by either major TPG.
FWIW, regarding the comment that my coin might only go 65 at PCGS, the Cameo dealer also thought my coin had a serious shot at upgrading to a 67. Again, I don't believe so, but it does appear to be solid for the grade. As mentioned though, the good Lord willing, this coin will stay in my collection for a long time, so I don't see the point in any sort of regrading except maybe trying to get a Cameo* at some point in time if the spirit moves me.
Very nice coin...but if that really is a PF-66, what are the flaws? Seriously...from the image it looks like a clear PF-67 with possibly higher aspiration.
One caveat...early 20th century proofs are not my forte, so I appreciate the education.

Hairlines. Lane, just as a basic piece of info, judging proof grades by images is dang near impossible, as it tends to be the hairlines that determine the grade.

Ahhh, thanks...that makes perfect sense. Still it's a really nice coin!

that coin speaks for itself Sy, leave it alone in the NGC holder. All of the Kool-Aid drinkers feel the need to chime in whenever a coin is shown in another holder, and they can't see the true beauty of the coin through the mindless speculation of "will it cross? will it cross at the same grade? why didn't you get it slabbed with PCGS, is it a problem coin?" and other tripe.
Dan (Coinpictures) is right; no matter the plastic, should you ever decide to sell, you'll have a line of collectors beating down your door.

I've always thought Cameo Walkers were very cool. (and rare)
Was it Marty or Russ that found a beauty a few years ago?
