Is the new PCI going to have a fighting chance?

Is the new PCI going to have a fighting chance to catch up or contend with the two top dog TPGS's?
I have a feeling NGC had better watch out for the new kids on the block. NGC uses way too much FUZZY grading when it comes to the ultra modern PR/MS70 grades.

So did the "old" PCI.

And at least with the 10th Anniversary Plats, so does PCGS.

To catch up or contend with? No, I don't think so. A snowball's chance in Death Valley, maybe.
Will they have a chance of pulling in a good market share of folks who submit less-expensive coins and problem coins? It depends. I think maybe so.
There ain't much room at the top, but in the second-tier market, I think there is some room.
They'll be lucky to get into the second tier, though.
I agree 110%. I'm in no hurry to use their services. I will stand aside and watch to see if they have the motivation and staying power to build their brand name over time with conservative accurate grading.

Please note the symphony of sarcasm...
Back to reality...I would be stunned if PCI could turn around its reputation with numismatists...and that is really the market that will determine its ultimate fate as a "real" contender in third-party grading.

A chance to fight? Perhaps.
If I bought one that already failed, would I ? Work ethic, friends, doing the RIGHT thing. There are rewards in every endeavor for a man, woman, boy or girl who has integrity.

Ws
1. A mailing list of people who were willing to submit to a company that was considered less than first tier throughout its long existence. Given a proper incentive, some of these people would likely submit again, especially if they had low value coins and can submit directly.
2. The PCI holder is well designed and fits in either of the most commonly used storage boxes.
The new owner of PCI must:
1. Gain acceptability on eBay. If they fail to do this they will not succeed.
2. Gain acceptability in the marketplace, at least in regard to lower priced coins. The PCI name should probably be dropped. They should probably avoid taking on the "big two" TPGs and aim instead for a status similar to ANACS or ICG. The "big name" investment dealers are unlikely to support a new TPG since they have spent years telling their clients to buy coins slabbed by the "big two" only.
3. Introduce their new brand of TPG only after having everything well thought out and ready to go. They must have a solid marketing plan in place and cause some excitement when they launch.
I hope they succeed. I think they can.
Short of that, I think it will be very hard to succeed.
I think the new PCI will suceed. I hope at least just below the level of the big two TPGSs, kind of like the old ANACS used to be. Competition is always good and forces all the companies to produce a better product.
David Lawerence stated on these boards that he has a lot of capital built up and has bought a new building with plans to grow. The boys at David Lawerence know bad grading from good grading and will do the right thing and have a pop report and a grading guarantee.....I would hope. If they do all the above, ebay should allow them to be listed on their auction site.
I would love to start submitting to the new PCI, but will not do so until the new PCI proves itself honorable and not just another crappy third world grading service.
Good Luck to DLRC...
