Well,What a thread I created !!!Thanks to all those who took time to read it an respond.I could add a few more details, like the name of that Texan, theamount for which he sold the set to the Iowan, a copy of theemail sent to the Woodsides. But enough is enough....I would like to end the day on a positive note,I truly love this hobby, I have collected and traded coinsfor 30 plus years, I've owned a lot of pretty coins, truly pieces ofart, full of history, and each with there own story.I've dealt with many dealers/collectors over the years.I thank them for their integrity, their honesty, the time they
took to teach, explain , and share their knowledge.
I'd like to share with you their names:

Larry Whitlow/Mike Printz, Dennis Tarrant,
Tony Terranova, Dave/John of CRO, Laura/George of Legend,
Jame Garcia, and Ed S.

Thanks,
and Good Night...

Yes, I'm sure that's what he was referring to.

I'd like to know about the Texan as I live in Texas and make a few shows around the State.

I'd also like to know the guy from Iowa. My brother has a summer home up there and I'm there a fair amount in the summers myself.
"Lenin is certainly right. There is no subtler or more severe means of overturning the existing basis of society(destroy capitalism) than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and it does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose."

  • I know a lot of people want to know the guys name from Texas, but I just can't stress strongly enough that this was our fault, and not his. These two lots were in nearly identical packages, the lot numbers were nearly identical, and he bid on just about every bulk lot in our sale. One of the biggest mistakes we made was having lot pick-up at 9am instead of 8am as the show opened to dealers at 9am and dealers were in a hurry to pick up their lots and get to the show. He trusted that we gave him the right lot, and I believe him. He is just not the type of person, I am convinced, that would take advantage of our mistake. He explained that when he priced the set to the dealer who purchased it from him, he priced it as if it were the Lincoln set he thought it was. As for the dealer who purchased the set from him, it was explained to me that he asked for a price, received a price, and purchased the set for the price quoted.

Again, this was our fault and ours alone. It hasn't happened before, and hopefully won't happen again.

Then how was the f-bomb justified? Has that person been fired or otherwise had his ears pinned back severely?

If find this to be entirely plausible.

However, I have found that many of the best deals I got at such auctions somehow got messed up (and it's never happened with mediocre deals). This does tend to foment a little suspicion about the dealers. I have neither ranted nor complained when confronted with a story why my rip was no longer available. I do see why others would be skeptical and think that dealers/auction houses would be well advised to engage in service recovery. This "investment" would likely pay handsome dividends not only with the aggrieved customer but in the re-telling of the story to others.

Ben - I didn't mean to sour the clean thread, I just wondered how the fellow who cursed him out over the situation was held accountable. There was (and is) stunning silence on that point.

Bottom line is that I don't want to work with anyone who would allow their employees to display such behaviour - and if it were a business owner who acted thusly, I would not prefer to support their business (at least without profuse apologies).

So, again, I'm only seeking clarification. That, and possibly a public scourging image
