but you have to remember that the bicentennial design started a year early on the 1975 issues of: 25c, 50c and dollar

I'm afraid i don't know the process but whoever did it did a very neat job of joining
the two halves together. I only have three or else I would have made a nice
necklace out of them.
While technically it may be correct to stamp the '75 penny it
just looks odd with the 1776-1976 next to it.
