1969 S DDO question...don't shoot me...no pics

Hi everyone,
I'm sorry that I can't produce an image for you (no camera and scanner won't do), but I think that I may have found a DDO 1969 S in my recently deceased father's collection. It's very subtle.......but something is there! I'm just wondering if I should even be semi-excited about this. I have no visual for you (sorry again....and don't publicly stone me like the plow guy), but I can fully describe what I'm seeing. On the word trust, there is a very shallow step to the right of each letter (even the inside of the R and U) except the last T. No other letters in "IN GOD WE TRUST" are like these. Liberty is not doubled in any way...the "S" is solid...the 1969, can't see anything unusual...and Lincoln is Lincoln. The coin has been in a very strange little collection of 1959 - 1972 placed in a small wood panelled card board rectangle that says,"Lincoln Memorial Cent Series" and then encased in what looks like a larger version of a coin flip. Who knows how long it's been in there...probably since the collection ended.....in 1972 (guess they weren't sure how long the Lincoln would last? ha). Anyway, it's not a glamorous coin, but I've definately seen worse. I don't have exquisite magnification, so I'm thinking of taking it to my local dealer for his opinion tomorrow morning. Any opinions? And if anything, thanks for letting me feel like I've just told someone who cares. My husband thinks I'm nuts (doesn't like coins).

Probably just machine doubling. The 1969-S DDO is very obvious.

A real example of the valuable 1969-S DDO is not subtle.

Are you from Michigan? That's where two were recently found.

Doesn't sound like the DDO from the description...it should match the pic in the red book exactly. All obverse lettering and the date are strongly doubled on the real deal...

Did they look like this? If so, machine doubling. I got a whole pile of them, I thought I was going to be rich! image

  • I got lots of those around here. I have seen a double vdb on ebay. Anyone know anything about these? They are pretty extreme too...
  • SH**#^(@(%)))T! Thanks to all of you. I appreciate your knowledge and expertice. I think that it might just be a machine doubling. I'm glad I asked though....thanks again.

It's how we all learn. I think when I found a really good one I must have spent about 30 minutes taking pictures of it and thinking, wow, I just found a 1969 S DDO!!!!! WOOO HOOOO. I posted the pics and in less than a minute, I started getting the dredded replies here that it was common machine doubling. I went from WOOOO HOOOO to boooo hooooo.
