So who snagged the 71-D IKE FEP/FEV/RDV-006 on Teletrade last nite?

Is that the friendly eagle variety? If so, is it considered scarce in MS66?

Pretty coin either way really as it looks like the mint bloom is deep.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

Not me. Actually I've been a very good boy regarding coin purchases this year... only spending about 12% of what I had spent by this time last year.

I agree with Pat that the bloom looks nice on that Ike.

    That's quite a tidy premium.

$720+ with the juice will be quite a bargain if these ever get attributed.
They are QUITE scarce in PCGS MS66...No FEV PCGS MS67 exists that I know of.
There are at least 2 in NGC MS67.

  • It means a variety on the reverse die. I.E. the back of a coin. This particular Reverse die variety is known as the Friendly eagle variety. The eagle on the reverse of this Ike $1 has a smile. I hope this helped or atleast came out right.

No, it doesn't. It lacks the furrowed brow.

  • I believe the going rate for an MS65 is in the $200- $300 range.

Don't like the Ike coins, rather spend that kind of money on my Hair Club for mens membership.
  • For those curious about the variety, check out this thread for details and pics.

For those asking about scarcity, one estimate is around 1 in 35 71-D's are FEV, so based on the pop reports about 20 in PCGS 66 plastic, though I expect there are more based on how many have been on the market the past 6 months. Another estimate puts the mintage on par with the 72 Type 2. Also, more are discovered/slabbed all the time (Lee crossed 3 from NGC in 66 a few months ago).

Time will tell if these were good buys for me or not, but this one will remain in my collection unless I find a nicer one (which is unlikely because I could never afford a clad Ike in 67, FEV or not, and these days finding any clad Ike that nice raw takes years and lots of luck).

<<Brian....what is the value of a PCGS MS65 FEV RDV-006?>>

If or when they ever get attributed into Ike varieties....Which they should, (IMHO) because they are even
MORE of a Variety than the infamous 72-P Type 2 (which took a VERY long time to FINALLY get recognized
for being the true and rare Variety it is).....

I would put it close to $400-$500 in PCGS MS65 and $1,500-$2,000 in PCGS MS66.
Only because they are very, very, very, hard to find and make in these grades.

Being the first year of the Ikes...when most of them were used in the casinos....It is tough to find
original "put away" 71-D rolls that have this variety in gem BU condition. When you DO find a roll with
some FEV's in them, there can be a few of them in there.....The chances of one of those coming out
to be a PCGS MS65 or MS66 quality is quite slim. A lot of these had spotting problems as well.image

Most FEV's found in these original rolls will end up in the 63-64 range (like most clad Ikes)....Very few
make it to the 65 stage and rarely does one ever make it to the PCGS MS66 level. That's why the one
on TeleTrade (Which was NOT offered as an RDV-006 or FEV)...happened to go for so 3 times what
a normal 71-D would go for!

The 71-D FEV is a naked-eye Variety that can be spotted with decent pics on TeleTrade, eBay, or Heritage.
People are finally starting to figure that out, and picking them up for bargain-basement prices of very
little to minor premium compared to what these things are going to worth when they are finally attributed.

    JMHO,
    Brian

I had my eye on that sucker but totally forgot about the auction due to some other pressing business! (Rob) image

Personally, I know of 15 maybe 20 MS66's top's. They are very tough in 66 and when PCGS starts attributing them, they'll get even tougher.

I heard a little birdie mention that the IKE registries would get reworked in the next couple of months so we'll see.

    Wait..........I've heard that bird before!

So, you Ike guys are chasing and ponying up a premium for a variety that isn't even recognized by the grading services? Now, why would you do that? image

    Russ, NCNE
  • Because it is there
    and significant!
Note how the folks recognized the unattributed photo.
