Anaconda - Best Coin Toy of 2008. Dino X Lite Digital Microscope.

Hands Down it is the Dino X Lite. It is a digital Microscope with 230x maginification, a superb resolution, and amazingly quick install bundled with an outstanding no-frills capture and viewing software. Here's a shot of the date on a Morgan. I actually had to resize it down from 1280x1024 to 800 pixels wide to make it easier to post. I outuputted to my 56" 1080p television and played around with it last night and was so impressed, I thought I would share it here. I've been searching for one for a while but was always disappointed when I saw the product. No let-downs here. It's everything I could want in a digital microscope.

My YN plans on shooting some insect pictures for school science projects. He dragged Dad (me) and Brandon over to the table at LB to check these out. He should get commission from the Dino people!

Actually, I'm glad you chimed in. Claychaser and his son found it at Long Beach and told me about it. I then forgot and they came to my table 20 minutes before we had to leave and I went with them to check it out. I was so impressed, I bought one on the spot. (And I'm rarely impressed). I was more impressed with his son's interest in U.S. Coins. When he's ready to start working, let me know.
...different model though. Same company. Same type of unit.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
<< <i>nice brandon, you have info on this dino lite? >>
Here's the Web Page.
The name is LEE!
Looks like something that would be helpful and not eye straining.
Oooh This Is FUUUUUUN!
Little Tiny Half Dime again.
I'll put it into consideration.

Got to put up the $$ for the quality. My kids have a TV telescope that looks like a big green eye. This baby eats a bowl of them for breakfast!

I'm gonna get something......but it sure would be nice to be able to image the whole coin and closeups....
I'm thinking about getting one of these. A couple of quick questions if you don't mind. What settings are possible for magnification? From what I can tell its variable (anywhere between 10-200x) but just wanted to make sure. Whats the largest area of a coin you are able to capture?
You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.
Or any one else with knowledge on this "cool tool"!!!!!

I think that Stephanie and Brandon should get a commission - These two threads will sell quite a few of these. I will get one also. This is exciting as it will make macro photography rather easy. Bob
Kinda makes the digital camera macro obsolete.

The magnification is based on distance. Treat the side bar as a focus as you move closer or farther away. Easy as pie.
I haven't tried to put a whole coin under the light. I haven't even used the stand yet. THOSE PICS ABOVE WERE JUST USING MY HAND HOLDING IT. STILL SHARP AS A CRYSTAL. I'm sure if you hold the scope far enough away it will show the entire coin. However, I'm not sure if the focal range will allow you to shift that far away.
The magnification on mine is between 10 and 230x. However, I can't get it to focus good higher than 200x.
I'll do a search right after this, but if they are there I will certainly check them out and likely buy one.
I can't imagine the looks on the faces of some of my coin club members (the older ones more than the younger ones).
Affordable, has measurement feature, and 8 white LEDS!!!!
I guess the $49 stand is a needed accessory!!

I just turned 27 last Wednesday and I'm stunned at the quality of this gadget.
One more thing that really stands out as a strong point to this scope. The software that comes with it is top notch. Very user friendly. Double Click, it comes up and the screen is already filled with what's under the magnifier. Simple click to capture (.jpg) or click to record (.avi). Also, I noticed while playing around with it is constant white balance, contrast/brightness adjustment, and focusing sharpness filters running simulaneously. This is a huge factor in my satisfaction, and coming from someone who's imaged over 5,000 coins, this is an amazing achievement for an imaging program.
Man it is so badazz on the big tv.
Don't bother getting the tv only model. It's got a lower resolution. Get the good model and use the TV (S-Video) out on your laptop. That way you'll get the best of both models.
You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.
<< <i>I picked up the $500 model. It's the most durable and has the highest resolution 1280x1024 (huge if you're a .jpg nerd like me). Why skimp on a tool this impressive?

Brandon, this website says it only goes to 200x...what does it say in the manual or on the box.
I was checking this model out as being the top of the line, but kept getting a little gun shy wondering if that one was overkill thinking the 311 would get the job done. What made you settle on this model over the lesser models?

The heavy duty construction of the better scope. Higher quality materials with a more durable shell and connections. Why skimp on a tool this cool?

I think these instruments will significantly increase the interest in and discovery of varieties. Can't wait to try it on some of the ones I have.

I would like to know this too! Could anyone post a picture taken with one of these of a whole silver dollar or half?
Thanks
