Silver storage?

With silver increasing lately I've been going through my old silver coins as well as buying more. These are not "rare" coins just pre-64 circulated US silver coins. I was wondering if there is any harm (short or long term) in saving these coins in zip lock storage bags. I know that there were some plastics that caused lots of problems for coins before, but are zip lock bags safe? Thanks in advance.

    can't you just get some coin safe plastic rolls? Do you have a hoard of them? I don't think Ziploc brand or store brands will be the safest for your coins but if you really don't care, go for it.

    If it's junk silver, you could store it any way you want really.

    Well not really junk silver and I do care. Sounds like zip locks are bad.

    EBAY sellers would list it as rare coins image

    The zip lock bags that when you seal them turn from blue to green will ruin you silver (maybe its from green to blue?). I've got lots of copper
    that was ruined that way as well. It tones them, the copper, in ugly ways. Might not be great for silver.

    I kept some clad kennedy halves in a Ziploc once... They got all ugly and hazy.

    I would keep them in mason jars or plastic tubes. Even canvas bags if you have a lot of it. Just not plastic bags.

    I can't imagine that the polyethylene in ziplock bags would hurt circulated silver in any way. Or copper either. If those cents turned colors, it wasn't because of the bags. In my opinion.

    Ziplock bags do not contain PVC so they should be perfectly safe to store bullion.

    It is just bullion. Ziplock bags can't hurt the melt value, even if the coins turn black (they won't).

    Put them in an old Uban coffee can (you old guys remember Uban!!), and bury them in the back yard!!!

    If they were modern coins I would say vacuum seal to avoid milkspots but since they are old common circ silver, just keep them in an old tin can. No cover so moisture does not get trapped inside.

    The Zip lock bags are OK, but you should also throw in a desiccant. Personally, I would place them in rolls, then into the bags.
