New Busties from Stack's - Grades Are In!

UPDATE: Grades came in this past Friday. I was surprised that they all slabbed, plus one that I recently bought! This was my first submission to PCGS and I'm very pleased with the grades.

I just got some nice capped busts from Stack's. This time, I took a chance on a raw lot, sight unseen and going by just their description. I've never bought what amounts to a blind lot, but I was curious to see how these would actually look in comparison to their description. I rather like the lot, it's hard to see from my photos, but all of the coins have a bit of blue toning, and it's a good study group. They could have done a slightly better job of noting rim dings. On the 1836 O-122, I see kind of a streak in front Liberty's face and I can't tell if it's from handling or if someone wiped the area. It also doesn't have any eye appeal that the others have.

I paid at total of $474.30 (juice, salt, pepper, and seasonings included) and would liked to have done a little better on the price, but it was a fair deal nonetheless.

    Are any of them slabable??

    Very nice buy....congrats!!!!
  • Are any of them slabable??

I don't really know for sure if they are. The 1829, 1833 look like they could slab, 1818 might, but the 1828 and 1836 might not.

Stack's advertised this lot as VF20 to VF25.

That's why I'm pleased with the grades. Personally, I tend to agree more with the Stack's assessment, but I'm not professional grader, so what do I know!

I do, too. My commentary was more on the state of gradeflation today. I think even as the TPGs have tightened somewhat on the higher MS grades, as far as circulated classics go, gradeflation is as rampant as ever. This submission, IMO, demonstrates it.
  • ziggy29 - I absolutely concur. I actually was happy to see that they all slabbed, but really felt the 1818 might bag because of a scratch or two that I noted and the 1836, I thought should bag for what looks like a old cleaning or wipe just in front of Liberty's face. The grades on the other hand, was not what I was expecting. I excepted them to come back pretty much in line with Stack's.
