Could you do me a favor if you get time. Take close up photos of a gemstone, preferably a colored stone that may have some inclusions to see. Any ring you have at the show would be fine. I'm wondering how well the light penetrates into the stone since many gemstones often need a back lighting or strong front lighting. Just curious Thanks >>
It comes with its own lights You will see some glare on the stone from the lights.
The only thing that I have handy is the fire opal I'm wearing today. Well, that's what the stone is supposed to be
Thanks for the info! I haven't been collecting for very long and have been juggling back and forth on what kind of magnification to buy. This will definately help me to make a decision!
-May the road rise up to meet you and the wind be at your back-
I missed them at the show yesterday. Wonder if they'll be there all day today to make it worth a second drive up to LB.
The two things that concern me are:
(1) an onboard light -- that is an issue with the QX3, since you lose control of your lighting effectively and especially because of the range of focus
and (2) the range of focus itself. The QX3, which is similar in design, is a major hassle to shoot coins in slabs, particularly the old NGC fatties. I know people to sand down the plastic obstruction in the design of that one to get around it.
The gooseneck stand in theone reply shot does look interesting though. I think I got my QX3 on close out for $10 at Kay-Bee years back. $200 for that one I would have spent had I seen it at the show. I am look more at just doing a copystand set up and adapting microscope objectives directly to a digital SLR using extension tubes. I know a guy who does that for a different laboratory purpose very successfully.
So, worth the drive back up there? Would hate to do it and find the guy packed up and flew out this morning.
Thanks for the post! Looks like just the thing for those of us that are into varieties. How does it do with color-such as a vividly toned coin? Is it pretty accurate? I need something better in this regard than my scanner to image my own coins.
Color accuracy will be one of the main factors in my decision of a possible purchase. I also wonder if there's any significant advantage to buying the higher resolution model-especially for extreme closeups on variety coins.
Has anyone actually received one of these and tried them out.. just wondering how user friendly and idiot proof they are... you guys are conditioning me with the " If it looks to good to be true ... "
After the initial post I really haven't seen any user responses.. Is this thing the real deal or like one of those " As seen on TV " infomercials.. thanks Ken

Do a search...there've already been at least 3-4 people that have them. Stefanie and Brandon are 2 that picked them up at the show. Others have posted already as well.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
