Check out this NASTY ebayer...
I guess this is the sign of things to come with the new ebay policy:
After selling the past few months, I have three buyer who haven't said they got the package or left feedback stating the same, so I write an email:
"Hello, I hope you've gotten the coin and are happy with it, if so you could leave positive feedback for me, signifying the closure of our transaction, and of course I'll leave positive feedback for you.
thanks, "
So the person responds with this:
"I am a buyer and I don`t leave feedback. If you want feedback you must leave it FIRST. If you are afraid of bad FB then leave NONE. BUYERS don`t need feedback and I never sell on the Bay. Thanks, Chas. "
Wow, wake up call for me..
So how are the NEW feedback policies going to affect these people, when they don't have to worry about the seller leaving a negative ???

It's a sad time for e-bay.

Neg him just for spite. If a few months feedback won't mean a thing anyway.
I agree. Neg the punk.

This is a stupid idea.

I *ask* my buyers to confirm receipt of the item and to let me know they are satisfied with the transaction. Period. No hostage-taking in feedback. Just let me know you received it and are satisfied. Once they do that, even if they don't leave feedback, I will leave feedback assuming I haven't already. At that point the transaction is truly complete as far as I'm concerned. Note I said that I ask them to do so as a courtesy. I don't demand it.
Note that I usually leave feedback as soon as I'm paid unless something smells a little funny.
And in any event, the new rules will make this moot. Frankly, they'd be better off not having the seller leave feedback at all. It doesn't give the seller any leverage back, but it gives the small minority of slimy buyers less reason to extort a positive.
Having said all that, with that attitude in the response there's no way he's getting any feedback. Like he said, he doesn't need it, right? He's basically admitted he has no reason to care.
Dave
you can expect one in return
plus he might turn you in for feedback extortion
and your selling results will ultimately suffer

Agree 100%. Time to move on. He apparently received the merchandise and that's all you should care about. Just because this guy was a jerk in his response doesn't mean you should act in kind.

Damn Booky did you get up on the wrong side of the bed today. Man you are tough in your responses, but you are still me buddy I hope my little booky.
I consider the positive feedback to be the confirmation of a happy buyer and thus brings the transaction to a close.
Based on Paypals stated new policy, it appears that Ebay and Paypal both agree with me.
"
27. Which sellers will have their payments held?
In a small percentage of cases where it has been determined the risk of dissatisfied buyers is higher, PayPal may delay release of the payment funds to the seller until the buyer has left a positive feedback or 21 days have passed without a dispute, claim, chargeback or reversal filed on that transaction. "
Based on this statement, positive feedback releases the seller of liability. So it is more than just 'feedback'.
He is blocked and I will not neg him.
AND on top of that, I still don't have an email from the buyer stating the coin was received and he's happy with it.
People expect good service and do not feel it needs to be rewarded, however for bad service, they will certainly retaliate.
When I ship, after a reasonable amount of time for the buyer to receive the package, and in case there is a return coming within my return period (of which, I have never had one thing returned), I will email the buyer and state something to the position of: "Hello, it looks like you would have received the item by now and all is well. If that is so, just let me know and I will consider everything good and closed and be happy to leave you positive feedback. Thanks"
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I think Chas was strait up with you and it was nice of him to write you back. I'd just leave him a positive feedback and give special recognition to him for his communication skills.
In future correspondences, it might be better to write about whether the coin was received and acceptable. That is the only thing that brought you two together. At the point of payment received and item received... it's a done deal.
I hope your feelings are not affected by such responses in the future but I would suggest you just leave a positive feedback to anyone who's paid you and acknowledged receipt of the item. I do not think his response is really that nasty. It seems "matter of factly". Nothing wrong with that, is there ?

Well stated by Chas. Not nasty at all. You asked the buyer to leave feedback first. When he paid you, he had completed his end of the transaction.
The only reason for you not to leave his feedback first was to keep the weapon of retaliation.
It is the same thing I do, so I'm not condemning the practice--but let's not pretend there is some other valid reason you had not left his feedback first.
<< <i>So how are the NEW feedback policies going to affect these people, when they don't have to worry about the seller leaving a negative ??? >>
That is why eBay is changing the rules. It will do a lot to blow away the crappy sellers. If you are giving decent service as a seller, you have nothing to worry about. Some of the power sellers around today will not be around tomorrow.
<< <i>The only reason for you not to leave his feedback first was to keep the weapon of retaliation. >>
Here we go again.
I'm almost glad eBay is changing the rules if for no other reason than this old, tired debate will mostly be moot.
[Edit to add: It would be even better if they didn't let the seller leave feedback at all. Then no one could whine about what the seller should have to do as soon as they are paid, and before they know if they are dealing with a scammer.]
seller got paid, suck it up and leave postive feedback first.
the ebayer is not nasty at all.
That is it in a nutshell.

The other five percent is when I have a question about how the item will arrive, still in good shape, so then I wait untill the buyer contacts me and lets me know the item arrived safely. These are usually items that are going outside of the USA or very fragile or expensive items.
To Neg a person that has paid for a item quickly is just wrong. Protect yourself with Insurance and Signature confirmation then relax.

<< <i>...what the seller should have to do as soon as they are paid... >>
Under the rules still in effect, most coin sellers need to protect themselves. If you sell cheap cell phone accessories and ship right away, you don't have to worry about weird, scamming buyers. So coin sellers should withhold feedback due to the fact that coins are a target item for scammers.
The new rules will be a positive thing for all. The playing field will be level, and the feedback will be meaningful ... and will clearly mark the sellers to avoid.
i concur.
if you had simply asked, have you received the package and are you happy with your purchase? and he said yes, thats all it would take for me to LEAVE feedback.
if he want to reply, thats his perogative.
you dont HAVE to leave feedback, nor does he have to return it.
The transaction is complete when the buyer has the item in hand, not before. I send everything with delivery confirmation so i have some sense that they package has made into their posession.
totally stupid. It should all be consolidated into one transaction instead
of one for each coin. I remember buying about 20 different coins and
there was 20 feedback places, and 60 Emails. One for each saying I
won the coin, one each for amount due and then one each for each one
paid for.
