Received this letter from an ebay buyer... Does it seem suspicious?

Received this letter today, 4 days since the auctions ended

The address matches the one on his ebay, but he seems to have changed his paypal account e-mail.

Is this normal or is he trying to pull a fast one on me?

Thanks

Sorry,

You will be getting paid via paypal on 2/14/08. Sorry the e-mail
address will be XXXXXXXXXX@yahoo.com

I will want the coins sent to XXXX State route XXX
XXXXX, OH XXXXX

I know this does not match my paypal addy but I have not updated since
my move. Sorry- you will not have any problems from with
chargebacks/fraud or whatever else paypal can conjur up... I want
those proof sets.. they are beautiful! I bid on almost all of your
sets... only won these three

Thank you

yes it does......the seller obviously knows that this will void any claim you may have with paypal due to the parcel being shipped to a non-listed address.....its as if he or she is trying to convince you that you will not encounter any problems.....my guess is you'd encounter some type of problem with the purchaser saying the merchandise was never received (and you would have no recourse)

Quick! Change your preference to accept payments from confirmed addresses only and then insist on sending to that address. CYOA!
  • Tell him to take the 5 minutes it takes to change and verify the address on his account, and we won't have a problem...

Tell him/her to send a postal check or "fix" paypal address. Do it by "the book".

I go from "my ebay" a link to paypal, to link "update profile summary" log in and you will see selling preferences. Find link that says payment perferences ..........just check option you want to block for buyers

    Thanks for the help.

I will now e-mail the buyer and alert him that I only accept payment from confirmed addresses.
  • Not suspicious... just trying to be honest.

We are in the process of moving so I am having the coins sent to my moms house. It is for 43 dollars and three proof sets.

you are more than welcome to call me and we can discuss any uneasiness you are feeling.

My home address is confirmed through paypal but if the coins are sent there they will just be forwarded and I do not want the coins forwarded so I was trying to be forthright...

Sorry. I knew I would get it wrong.
  • Looks fishy even without zero feedback. In my opinion it is attempted theft and you are the intended victim via paypal chargeback.

It seems Jason is a forum member (Welcome to the boards!) and has explained it well. I can understand what he's doing, have had others do it before without problems. I'm sure others have had bad experiences, guess I've been blessed.

Jason, when you have 0 feedbacks, I hope you understand the hesitation.

Some communication between the 2 of you, insurance and delivery confirmation should be enough on this one, IMHO. If it's for the amount of $43 I'd take the leap of faith if it was me.

Good luck, I hope it all goes well for both of you however you handle it.

  • Thanks everyone for your input.

I had a conversation with him and everything has worked out fine.

I know that everyone had to have had 0 feedback on ebay at one point or another, and his just happens to be now.
