Ripping into a box of 1981 Topps baseball tonight.

Well, I figured I would tear into a wax box of 1981 Topps baseball tonight. Wish me luck, I hear that they can be pretty tuff.

    Add scans when you can.

  • Actually, the Ryans usually have decent centering.

This thread is worthless without scans.
  • Sorry guys, someone came bye to buy one of the puppies that I have for sale. He finally left so I am going to start ripping in about 15 minutes. I will try to give an update every once in a while.

I am interested in any Mint Kirk Gibson's #315 you may pull and card #112 R. Kuntz.
  • Not sure of a good way to do this, but the nicest cards from the first pack in no particular order are

    #131 Keith Moreland
    #262 Sammy Stewart
    #302 Dodgers future stars (Perconte/Scioscia/Valenzuela)
    #456 Jeff Reardon
    #605 Don sutton
  • I would beinterested in a nice Garner if you pull one.

Nothing really worth scanning yet. A couple nice commons that I will scan later. Vern Ruhle, Fergie Jenkins, Tony Perez, George Brett, Eddie Murray, Steve Carlton so far but none of them are 50/50.

succesful deals :richtree, Bosox1976, Bkritz, mknez, SOM, cardcounter2, ddfamf, cougar701, mrG, Griffins : thanks All

    Go Phillies
  • good first pack!!! Fernando/Scioscia Rookie and a Reardon Rookie!! Both could have put up HOF numbers. damn this set had so much potential! but then again, if a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his arse a-hoppin.......
  • Well, I have not even gone to bed yet, so until I wake up here are just a few that I got. These are in sleeves and semi-rigid holders as well. I will get up some better scans of these and the others when I wake up. The Ryan was in the very last pack. I got a Henderson stolen base card, but no regular card of him or Johny bench or Baines. Pete was the first card in a pack so he has a little wax on him. I also got a Brett, Ozzie Smith, Tim Raines Rookie, Molitor, Murphy, Steve Carltons. I was a little dissapointed but I think the Ryan made it worth it. I should have quit a few low or no pop commons that are pretty sharp.

I'm good with those '84 Donruss that you showed in the scans, but thanks for the thoughts! image

I've actually got about 60 cards at PSA trying to upgrade quite a few cards in my set and to bring it to 100% complete as well. So, we'll see how that goes. image

Let me know which Dodger cards you pulled from the '81s that are centered because I've got a couple of them in PSA 9 or better, but I want the entire team set.

Those 81s are sweet - the Ryan looks great!

BTW - I'm looking for the following cards in crappy shape - or if ya got dupes:

    81T - #153 Tom Poquette
    81T - #548 Dave Goltz
    81T - #84 Johnnie LeMaster
    81T - #695 Kent Tekulve
    81T - #39 Tom Veryzer
    81T - #68 Matt Alexander
    81T - #527 Dan Goodwin
    81T - #468 John Wockenfuss

  • Here are a couple more. I checked out about 20 Bench's at a local card store today and the ink bleed was unbelievable on every one of them. I assume that the bleeding is the common problem with them. Not sure how the one I pulled compares to the nicer ones out there.

  • I am all done. I ended up opening 1/2 of another box. So after a box and a half I did not got a Henderson, Baines, Yaz or Fisk. My next step is to go through everything and pick out the low or no pop cards. I will add some scans of what I find.
  • Nice rip.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • Let me know if you want to offload any Schmidts or Carltons.

    J
  • Oops, I did get a Fisk!
