pcgs and other tpg's at the long beach show?

I want to go to the Long Beach show this weekend, but am not sure if PCGS or NGC or other tpg's will be there to do on site grading

services. I wouldn't mind saving some time and postage by bringing a few things with me for grading but I don't want to lug a bunch of stuff

unneccesarily. I also would be interested in knowing if they evaluate coins for free prior to slabbing just in case there is something wrong

with the coin i.e. cleaned, fake, etc.

Thanks.....Luckyman

They are always there. (You can get an exhibitor list I think at longbeachshow.com.) They won't evaluate a coin for submission there but will accept submissions (saving postage) and assess a few coins per person for an hour or so, not as part of the submission process. There are plenty of other people there at the show who can tell you whether a particular coin is worth the trouble and expense to slab.

On site, they accept submissions for all the regular services with the same turnaround times. They have show special ones too that turn around in a day at the show for expensive coins at a high cost.

If you go to Long Beach, have fun!

CU (PCGS's parent) does on the LB show. PCGS and NGC will be at the show taking submissions for grading at the show or back at the office. ANACS and ICG will also be present but not doing show grading.

Both PCGS and NGC will be grading on-site at Long Beach. NGC will cut off on Friday morning and PCGS will most likely stop accepting on-site submissions by Saturday morning.

That's right around the corner from PCGS, you could almost just drive there directly and avoid the show if you don't like crowds. image

The PCGS office in Santa Ana does not normally welcome walk-in visitors.

They do on six "Public Fridays" a year apparently. Last Friday was the most recent (next is 4/4). I'm curious, has anyone here ever done that, and what was it like?

So, I am going to carry my mint sealed box of five 2006 ase three coin sets under my arm and a few raw morgan cc's I guess and see

if I can get them graded on site. I am just afraid that when they open that box they find milk spots image wish me luck!

I thought they had a same day $100 service level for walk in business? It never specified that they don't prefer this. image

"Public Fridays" are mostly for accepting PSA and PSE submissions.

In-house same day grading orders need to go through the entire processing heirarchy so turnaround times for on-site grading at a coin show is probably faster.

For the people who would rather drop off coins at their office in person a prior appointment is definitely required.

I went there on 12/17. It was very busy, with lots of sports material going in. It was in the PCGS lobby, and no coin people around that I knew of, and the person who helped me did not seem to know anything about coins. The 14 coin economy submit was not done until 1/22, the CC Special was done 1/8. Both of these submits had photo's done, whcih probably takes longer, and the holidays probably did not help either.

If you want a coin person to look at your coins before submitting, I would recommend seeing them at a show.

Here's one the ecomomy submits that got the coveted PO-1 grade:

I did it once. There was a line. Was worth the drive up considering what the postage would have been for the submissions I had at the time. I also was dropping off a consignment at Teletrade, practically their neighbor, and that saved some more postage there.
