A VERY NICE ESTATE COIN !

This is an early & lovely 1917 Bare Breasted Liberty Philadelphia Minted Quarter Dollar Silver Coin. The inventory lists the condition as Nearly FDC Unc and it is a beauty, the coin books all say full head detail is a huge plus value wise and this one looks to have all the full head details as noted on the inventory as rare for this issue

I suspect sellers pics make the coin look better than it is and yours make it look worse. I will say that I do not see FH on this one. Not sure that what you paid is out of line though. Does seller accept returns?

This is a common date to find in FH even in AU, which the coin in question appears to be.

Coin did look like a FH from the Sellers pics... Nice Up/Angle shot, but it is NOT a Full Head. Coin was also visable as a AU58 from his pics. This SLQ looks like it was cleaned with Silver Paste as it's a bit deader then dipping would do? Sorry but guess your out a few hundred on this one.

I saw the term used in a 1945 issue of "Numismatic Scrapbook" magazine.

Your pics seem to be made on a scanner, correct? That tends to make coins look washed out with little luster.

I believe all sales were final. The coin is obviously lightly worn, but was correctly described as Near FDC Unc.

My 14 year old son recently started a SLQ collection. I never realy payed much attention to them until he showed an intrest, the more I look at them the more I like the design....

this seller has been the discussion of many a thread on these boards.
I'm surprised the little envelope the coin was in wasn't marked, "rare, do not sell."
Near uncirculated is the same as almost uncirculated, obviously.
If they don't take returns then you know you've been had.

When grading this design, the points to inspect carefully on the obverse are Liberty's right knee and the center of the shield. Coins graded "full head" (abbreviated FH) are much scarcer than those without. This designation has more to do with the quality of the strike than with the grade. To qualify for this designation, the coin must exhibit the following: details in hair are well defined; hairline along the face is raised and complete; eyebrow is visible; cheek is rounded. Also check to see that the twigs are fully struck and have rounded stems, the hairline along Liberty's brow is complete and the ear indentation must be evident.

i'd return it, you are obviously not pleased with the coin in hand, which is what matters most.
