personally ryans rock star like popularity is a mystery to me. he was a physical freak who could strike people out and always has a chance for a no-hitter because of it, but you look at the pitchers from the 60's (gibson, jenkins, palmer, seaver, marichal etc.) and he was no where close to them for overall ability.
that's how smr gets obliterated.

RIP GURU
This card is truly an investment. I can almost guarantee this card will definately go up in valve in a short time.
If you don't like the $4500 I'm taking serious offers only.
Thanks,
Roland
a novelty for some ryan geek sure--an investment doubtful.
<< <i>I wonder why the SMR value is so low then. I have 1980 & 81 PSA 6's that it seems I have to sell together to even get a buyer at all.. >>
You would be better off selling them raw than having them in a case graded 6's. Need to be at least 8 or 9 to sell graded in those years.
<< <i>You must be smoking something.. SMR value for a 10 is $600 and you want $4500 you got to be kidding. >>
Since when does SMR actually have valid prices? For example: 1979 Topps Pete Rose PSA 10 #650 is worth $600 according to them. The only one I've seen sell went for just under $2,000 if I remember correctly.

I did not expect them to get graded that low. Too late now as I can't break a psa case. Its too difficult.

<< <i>truly an investment is a mouthful. there are cases and cases of unopened 1979 material. i don't care if it is 30 years old. there are hoards of nice looking ryans that have not been graded. i can say with 99.44% certainty that there will be more PSA 10's of this card down the road. that 99.44% is a lot more credible than the value of that card will go up.

Ok bro how much is a case of 79 topps? Steve (bbcexchange) has a grocery case of 192 trays for 6,000.... Why dont you buy a case and pull a 1 psa 10?
Hi Roland...too rich for my blood! I have been asleep at 54% completion on the Ryan set for a year..I better add before I get deleted!
the same could be said for almost any card in that set. that wax case has 6912 cards. the $6000 would not be spent looking just for a ryan. you could get ozzie, molitor, rose etc all in 10's.
i would make a friendly wager by the end of 2009 there will be at least one more 1979 psa 10 of 115.
thanks

<< <i>Go to vintage card prices .com and they will supply you the info you need to know for about $10 a month. VCP.com gives you I think the last 5 specifics of a card whether it be through ebay, an auction house, etc... I am not a member, but will be someday. I know alot of guys here on the board are and it is well worth it. There are some threads discussing VCP which are quite interesting if you can find them. I browsed for them, but have to run for now. >>
Thanks for the info on VCP. I joined up.. great resource. You know of a similar site for modern cards? I sent in a submission today of some 73 & 74 topps baseball so that site will be useful. Some good stuff in there. ryan, mays, aaron, clemente, 78 molitor rookie. I came across a complete set 0f 73 & 74 topps. I broke up the 73 but I can probably find raws I have in lesser condition to replace them. I think they should grade nicely. I figure mostly 7 &8. Most of the corners look pretty good. Its just the centering that becomes an issue. it varies thoughout the set. If I got anything less than a 6 I would be shocked..but you just never know. I just don't know if I would be better off to keep breaking it up or put the set back together and selling it that way. I hear of these set registerys everyone has but i don't really understand what it is or how to read the ones I do see. I guess I'm just too much of a newbie to all this at this point. Alot of the stuff I started with was cards I had from age 6-12 that i kept..lol

If your serious enough email me and I'll email you pictures of the card.

<< <i>$6000 is a lot of money for the average man, and I am below average. BBCE may have that a little high. It appears that it has been in his inventory for nearly two years. It would be fun to rip, but not fun to clean up and sort. >>
just as an option why not put it on ebay with a either a 'buy it now' or a reserve and see what happens?
