OT: When did PayPal remove the option to deny e-checks?

I was surprised the other day when I received an e-check in payment for an eBay item, and furthermore it was from an unconfirmed address.

I went to my "Payment Receiving Preferences" and the item to block e-checks was checked, but now reads "Block the following payments: Pay with eCheck for website and Smart Logo payments, or German bank transfer for all website payments except eBay"

(emphasis added)

I could have sworn that at one point we could deny e-checks PERIOD. Am I misremembering?

It looks like you now HAVE to accept e-checks for eBay merchandise.

Furthermore, I have my settings set to "Block payments from U.S. users who do not provide a Confirmed Address:" yet this e-check was allowed through?

Is this a loophole that now allows scammers to void the Seller Protection Policy by sending e-checks?

Yes. It's been that way for a long time. Be sure to use insurance and Sig Confirmation. Good luck!

After you get the payment set up and just before you hit the "send payment" button (or whatever it's called), click on "more payment options". choose e-check. --Jerry

Don't you love how even if you don't want them, they can force you to accept them on eBay?

Gotta love abuse of monopoly power.

Personally I'd rather have an e-check for a big ticket item since the fee is capped at $5, but I still think that if I have the option to refuse them, they should force us to grant eBay an exemption.

I'd like to know why they've never fixed this. They know about it since many sellers, (myself included), have brought it to their attention.

You can always file the NPB form on ebay and cancel the sale. One of the reasons is "buyer requested delivery to an unconfirmed address". then refund his e-check. --Jerry
