Mike Schmidt auto on reverse ?

It is hard to see - but that looks like his auto - not really sure what that description says...

Sure looks like Mike signed where his name is on the back of the card. And the seller is supposed to be a card dealer? What a joke.

It sure is, an early one, but it is his sig. Thats a pretty good deal. Wonder why he didn't sign it on the front???

It a good sig. I don't know if it was THAT great of a deal. Cards signed on the back are not very popular, and the card itself is grossly off center. I suppose this could end up some day on one of those bad Topps cut cards.

Hi guys,
I stumbled across this message board while I was looking for info on John Hilton.
I am the person who bought this card. Put in a late bid and was shocked when I got it for $33. There is no doubt in my mind this is a legitimate Schmidt sig. (I own another one from the mid-70's.)
Rest assured, it will NEVER be cut. I plan on giving it to my son someday, and he has as much respect for old cards as I do.
I do have a question... do you think it would be worth the effort to try and get Cey and Hilton to also sign the back of this card?
Let's be honest, Schmidt's sig has already "compromised" it. Two more sigs definitely won't hurt it.
I'm pretty sure I can contact Cey through a California sportscaster friend of mine, but I can't find anything online about Hilton's present whereabouts. (Anyone know?)
I think it would be incredibly cool to have all three guys sign one of my favorite cards of all time (When I was a kid, I was a huge fan of both Cey and Schmidt).
Or would you suggest forgetting the whole idea and simply enjoying the card the way it is?

Congrats on winning the card! I'd try and get Cey/Hilton to sign it. There's a thread floating around here somewhere about cards exactly like yours with everyone's sig on it.

Ron Cey is a great TTM signer.

John Hilton is better known as David Hilton, but he is not a very reliabel TTM signer

To some collectors an autograph will decrease the cards value and appeal, especially when its an ugly scribble on the back. The card is also OC so I think the final bid was close to what it should have been.

When I was younger in the early 80's I had a EX+ 1952T Willie Mays and had him sign the card when he showed up at one of our American Legion BB fund raisers in the Bay Area. Many years later I had trouble getting 50% of the book value because of the "damage" the signature added to the card. If the signature is worth more than the raw card thats a different story, but Schmidt is a common mass produced sig and the card is far more valuable raw than signed IMO.

Since this was brought back up ... A Michael Jack Schmidt rookie card with a nice looking signature on back and the thought is $33 is a fair price - Just talked to a dealer in North Jersey who I bought my PSA 4 schmidt rookie off of and he said schmidt now signs for $75 a flat....IMO that was an awesome deal - too bad the dealer didnt know what he had...

That's a super buy! On completing the sigs? Not sure.

Since the sig is on the back, it would look great in a PSA/DNA holder IMO - with or without the other sigs.

Hey Congrats on winning the card !
As a TTM'er of a lot of multi-signed cards, I would leave it the way it is. Schmidt is the Main Signature by far on the card, The other two sigs won't add the much value if any to it. Plus you take the risk of the card getting lost or not returned to you. Just keep it as is, The Sig on the back is not as desirable as one on the front but it is still a very nice piece.
