BTW all of the sellers listings is using the 0.5 grade for hype, even his 70/30 "well centered" Montana RC may be a possible 8.5.

That seller has probably has already sent to PSA
any card in his inventory that he thinks might have a shot at a bump.

He makes his living selling cards,
so he's not going to leave any money laying on the table. I hate liars.

Sell your cards dealers, that's your job. Just don't piss down our backs and tell us it's raining. image

I fail to see the difference how this is any different than saying a card should/could be a 9. This guy would be using the same exact spiel regardless.
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
Yep exactly Lee, or the 8++++++++++++++ too.

Just now they think they have some credibility saying this.

    It is no different.

It's still a shady business practice for a full time dealer
to try and take advantage of gullible buyers by suggesting that cards are undergraded.

If they really thought so, they'd resubmit them themselves ...

  • This is so sad! Wait until they want more regrading fees and go to all decimal your 8.5 might bump to 8.7....image

I agree Lee it's no different than saying it should be a nine. However, with the half bump system I do think collectors might be inclined to believe a 1/2 grade bump story than a 9 story. I just was pointing out that the half grad hype machine is now in full swing and all 8's will be regarded as 1/2 bump candidates until about 1 year from now when most likely candidates have been submitted for bumps.

I don't think all candidates will ever all be submitted. And I think the hype that now includes the possible .5 bump is here for us for all time.

And when we start seeing 8.5's on the Market the hype will be that it should be a 9 or 8.5 +++++++. Does anyone (here) ever even buy into anything those sellers say?

I try to keep the hype to a minumum. If I truly feel a card is hi end for its grade I mention it. I also mention if I feel it is average, too, for that matter. The less plus signs and exclamation points the better. Often times I'll pass on someones offerings simply because I did not like the way they hyped an item. The only time I got burned on a card (bad) is for an auction that looked like this:

QQ---- Should be a 9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The graders must have been asleep on this one and even more exclamation points. Yep, that was the last time I took any of those nit wits words for anything.

Nothing wrong with people trying to get top dollar for their card...

No one forcing anyone to buy anything...

I say good for the sellers...

I was speaking about those sellers that really hype, the seller that the link here brought us too was not hyping. Actually his sub title was quick and to the point.

Only he knows if what he said is true. I think this particular card while it may be a candidate for a bump the spread between 8 and 9 may not make it worth doing. Yes I am aware that Groat was the MVP the previous yr. and this is a card 1.

    Good for you.
  • At least on graded cards you can make a educational guess if it can be bump up a 1/2 point or not. The ungraded cards that some sellers overgrade I think will still be the the biggest problem.

When sellers list every card with this hype then it seems a little dishonest as his descriptions don't even match the cards he is selling. The Montana is not well centered.

    Couple of thoughts:

The few auctions that was watching (PSA 8 stars), they went higher than anticipated. They were nicely centered 8s but they still went higher than previous nicely centered 8s, if that makes sense. I think I'm going wait a bit until I can find 8s that are still centered but won't get a bump due to corners or something.

When I sell my remaining 1957 PSA 8s, I am going to say that these have not been reviewed. That will be a truer statement than saying that they could be 8.5s.

With a PSA 9 having 10 times the value of an 8 it is unthinkable not to send it in for the bump if it remotely has any chance at all.

BTW the Giants are keeping up nicely with the Pats so far. (They just won the coin toss)image

    Brick....for the 61 Groat card?

I should have worded my sentence better. What i meant to say if the spread is not worth it....

I did not know if it was.

I did know it was a card number 1 and what i consider the MVP card.

10x difference? then yes, I would agree it would be beneficial. Howver some dealers will spew this nonsense for cards that it won't make a difference or be worth it to bump.

Maybe he is so fed up with PSA right now...

doubt that, he is a full time seller, he is trying to hype the .5 bump and get more then 8 money for his card.

    nothing more nothing less.
