Has anyone had experience with a PayPal Claim?

I received this from E-Bay today. I had been trying to get this guy to ship some gold I purchased from him... Apparently he also stuck some other people. I paid through PayPal I hope they perform as advertised.

"Our records show that you were a bidder or buyer of one or more items from the seller, equilon64. We recently removed this seller's active listings and suspended the seller's trading privileges. Due to privacy concerns we cannot share further details about this seller."

I always pay with a credit card when using PayPal. Only once did I get jilted for some coins. I did a chargeback on the credit card. PayPal was quick in trying to resolve the dispute. Hope this helps.

Accepting paypal on gold is generally a loser for the seller after combining the eBay fees. The margin is just too thin for multiple listing sellers who specialize in gold bullion coins.

I'm always leery of people who do that and check their background before bidding.

I lost over $850 back in late '02 to a guy who apparently ripped over 30K after delivering on his first few sales to get a positive FB string started.

He even sent me the first one ounce Gold Eagle, after a few more weeks and a large batch of auctions is when he showed his true colors.

Paypal was worthless in my case. A few emails and a phone call on my part led to nothing but a waste of time. He cleaned out his paypal account, got NARU'd and moved from his listed address in quick fashion.

I got to file an $850 loss on my taxes. It could have been worse, others lost more, some a lot more.

Good luck, but paypal rarely sides with the buyer. They've gotten their fees and they are moving on.

This guy is into me for about $900. I bought a 1 oz Panda.... if you can believe it, that I was buying for a friend of mine. I feel like you do, that I was lucky. This is really the first time in 8 years that I have had a problem on E-bay. The guy had 99.98% feedback on 400 transactions.

Appreciate the comments.. I will let you know the outcome.

Yes, I did about 2 years ago. Bradley Baker of Colombus Ohio sold a PCGS proof Library of Congress bi-metalic $10 to me on a second chance offer, saying the high bidder didn't pay. He actually sold the original listing to the high bidder and the other to me. After not receiving it, he told me that he got stuck by Pay Pal removing money from his account, and that he wouldn't pay me until Pay Pal paid him. Once I heard that I filed a claim, where Pay Pal hit his credit card to its limit which it refunded me--However, I was still out $380 as the amount didn't cover the full purchase price.

When I tried contacting him again, he laughed saying he was taking off to Las Vegas with the money he took from me and others!

I got stiffed by some guy who ran an auction for a coin which he had previously been sold to another forum member, so I filed my complaint, waited for the other party's response (PayPal gives them 20 days to respond if memory serves), they didn't respond at all, I got 100% reimbursed, and the other guy was later NARU'd.

That was satisfying.

Twice. One time it worked for me and the other time against me. But both times the "right" thing happened and I was glad I had used PayPal and USPS insurance.

I've also Gotten Burned Through a few Paypal Transactions. The one Person Cleaned out their account and Left E-Bay. I Had The Local Police in the Person's State Actually resolve This Matter for me because there were a Number of people that got Ripped off at the Same Time. We actually got our money back after a few months. On Another occasion involving Paypal, I had a similar situation and decided, after notifying Paypal,to File a Dispute with My Credit card Company. Well, Paypal DID NOT like this AT ALL! They told me never to do it again until they have exhausted ALL of their Avenues. (Yeah,Right...Like i'm gonna wait for them Again?). They did'nt help the first time soo i KNEW my Credit card company would handle it and they Did. I Hope you get this Resolved but don't rely on Paypal! "DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO"! Ray in Florida..

I just had an e-mail exchange with a customer today who was lamenting his lack of capital because he got ripped on some gold he bought with paypal. His story is that paypal told him he wasn't covered because it wasn't an e-bay purchase. His credit card says they have come to an agreement with paypal that they won't do a chargeback until paypal has had 60 days to resolve or something like that. Doesn't sound good.

I had a small transaction go bad once. Paypal tried to act tough when I charged back through my visa card and was refunded.

I didn't give a rats a$$ what Paypal thought. Still don't.

Back befor eBay bought Paypal I had a transaction go bad. I bought a $100 electronic item that was dead on arrival. The seller agreed to take it back but I didn't get a refund. After lots of emails and forms, Paypal was able to get $2 out of the sellers account. I was told I was out of luck on the rest. PayPal sux.

I have had two paypal claims denied recently. One was for a vintage 7-up clock that I did recieve but it was in really bad shape. The seller said return and I did but never got a refund. Contacted Paypal and he provided tracking number that I recieved it. I provided tracking that I sent it back but Paypal still denied my claim $70 loss and a neg. Another seller sent me a box of trash and I never got my item- paypal said as long as he had proof he sent something they would side with him and my claim was denied- this was for a large sum. I have noticed Ebay is getting sleasier all the time. I have toned down my ebay buying since these two things happened.

Does PP move any faster if you threaten THEM with a chargeback; say if you don't resolve this in 7 days I'll go to my CC company who will resolve it?

In my case, it was an "E-check" from my checking account. No credit card company involved. As I said, this is the very first time I have been burned in 8 years dealing with E-bay and three years dealing with PayPal.

The Seller is from Midland, Texas and I doi have some contacts down there that could put some heat on him. That of course is assuming he is still there.

I've had 3 non-receipt claims over the years and all have been paid 100% with no problem. If the seller qualifies for the $2000 buyer protection, you are covered, regardless if paypal recovers any money from the seller or not.

Always use a CC when using PP. Chargebacks or refunds are much easier and much, much faster (practically automatic) when done directly with the CC companies, rather than through PP.

I've only had one claim in eight years and Paypal paid quickly for now delivery.

I've made one claim, got a partial refund out of the scammer's paypal account. Never got the rest. This was two years ago, I think.
