"Grades Available" notification: PCGS is straightforward, why has NGC become so convoluted

In this thread from a few days ago I commented on the fact that it seems both PCGS and NGC have ramped up the grading and now turn submissions around rather quickly. While I believe that to be true for the most part, I've also noticed a strange twist to the way NGC tries to help us "track" our submissions, hence the convoluted reference. Let me explain.......................
This all came to a head when I was engaged in a robust PM session with a couple members the other day, one being HisMadness. I figured if anyone had an inside track to how things work across the street it'd be Marty, but he's as clueless as me and seems to also be stuck in "Quality Control" never-never land!! At the same time we were in agreement as to how simple it can be at PCGS, so let me explain quickly below how it's supposed to work at each(the reality is much different for NGC)!!!
---At PCGS it's very simple, an order should show when it's "Received" and then when it's "Completed" along with an e-mail notification, easy as pie.-----All my orders seem to follow this flow.
---At NGC it should be so simple!! An order should show as "Received" followed by "Scheduled for Grading" followed by "Quality Control" followed by "Finalized/Imaged/Shipped" along with an e-mail notification that used to be lovingly referred to as DannyMail!!!-----All my orders had followed that flow until about 2-3 months ago. As of late, everything seems to move quickly to "Scheduled for Grading" and then to "Quality Control" but then it's back to "Scheduled for Grading" and once again to "Quality Control" where they seem to stay for varying lengths of time, all very frustrating.
Can anyone explain what might be happening across the street to account for all the double movement and has anyone else encountered something similar?? What about the way PCGS does it, simple seems to be better in this case don't you agree?? And finally, can anyone offer advice as to how to fight the urge to check the progress at either site??

Mine usually stay in Receive mode for a while then quickly from Scheduled to Quality Control. The time in QC varies a lot from a couple of days to over a week then the DannyMail.
Maybe there is a problem with the slab info or grade to cause the bouncing?
My PCGS subs have been very smooth. Pretty consistent with the current turnaround times. I usually only do modern, regular or freebies, no world or special subs.
I usually check each site daily sometimes twice or more.
I am very bad at waiting. The current submissions I have not been to neurotic about checking.

I've been told that the QC stage is generally about 4 days.
I will let my NGC paid membership lapse this year.
<< <i>Can anyone explain what might be happening across the street to account for all the double movement and has anyone else encountered something similar?? >>
Maybe John Taylor bought NGC.
Seriously Keets, that has to be frustrating to see your order move backwards instead of fowards.

Nope. Now please excuse me while I go and check my submisson status.
<< <i>How do you check a status online at NGC? >>
I believe it is only available to paid memberships along with POP reports?
There is an order status link when you sign in.

What's the spouse up to at about that time?
