2007 Platinum 1/4 Ounce Unc. Cancelled by Mint - Updated!

Just got an e-mail from the mint stating that the order I placed for the 1/4 ounce plat unc. on 1/11/08 was being cancelled, with reason given: "Other"

I have been trying, probably like many of you to get on to the mint web site for the last week to check the status of this order, fearfully awaiting just such an e-mail. I placed an order for the 1/2 ounce at the same time, and that wasn't mentioned so I've got my fingers crossed. If any of you are in a selling mood, I'm in a buying mood for the 1/4 ounce.

Sorry to hear about your cancelled order. I ordered on 1/8/2008 after seeing Eric's post and received the coins yesterday. I am planning on keeping these coins as suggested in Eric's post.

There are still plenty of people that bought the coins recently and want to get out for personal reasons (need the money) or dont understand what they have. Just watch ebay and teletrade over the next few weeks and pick up 70s cheap (less than $600 for quarters). These coins are not going to spike hard right away like the 2006-w. The 2007-w MS-70 changing reverse plat quarters and halves will do very well over TIME. Let them come to you. Don't chase them.

    Best Wishes,

    Eric

2006 is the key. I wouldn't even both with 2007, unless your collecting the series or something.

What I find amazing is that they e-mailed you. Mine they reported as shipped and not available on my order status page. No E-Mail.

I had ordered two unc quarters on 1/14/08 and after reading your post decided to call the mint and my order had shifted to hold from in stock and reserved. I ended up being transfered to 3 people and after verifying my information 3 times, I finally got the coins released, so I'm not really sure of what going on at the mint but they seem to be having issues.

The same thing could be said of the 2005 proof platinum eagle half in the spring of 2006. The 04 half was a 5000 mintage coin and the 05 a 6000 mintage coin but the 05 is now respected with a gray sheet bid price of about twice issue price. What will a roughly 3950 mintage type coin be worth in high grade in ten years? Do not let the 06-w spoil you. The 07 can be had for just over melt and the 06-w can't. Its (07) low risk and rare enough to have teeth.

The 2006-w will be king more than likley for many years and those who do not have them should buy them but don't look past the 07-w either.

That's the funny thing, I saw the package in registered tape with a date of 1/17/08 stamped all over it. I was afraid to open it because I couldn't remember having ordered anything from the mint recently and didn't want to lose FS elligibility. (I thought it might be a Dolley Madison I had ordered and then cancelled). I scoured my credit card activity and there was no transaction from the mint. Eventually I saw that my card's available balance showed about $440 less than it should, even though there was no temporary transaction listed. That was the exact price for the Unc. after tax. It is very surprising to receive a coin before having been charged for it.
