Maybe it's all just a conspiracy on the part of the members of the 30,000+ post club, to help each other run up their post counts to ever higher and more preposterous levels
After reading endless butt kissing posts let me ask the question, . . . why does Griv catch total hell every other thread? Okay maybe I already know that one but forget Russ, he’s a celebrity, a virtual icon, boring as it may be we need to talk about us common folk.
After reading prior replies to my OP, here is my $.02 worth:
1. Some forumites admire his devotion to his niche of Kennedy Silvers from 64-70 and the depth of his knowledge and experience regarding same;
2. Some forumites like the same coins he likes;
3. Some forumites enjoy disagreeing with him and getting into arguments with him about anything;
4. Some forumites enjoy reading his insults and name calling directed at others, including those who disagree with him;
5. Some forumites like to disagree with him and engage in a scholarly debate with him;
6. Some forumites dislike him and make sure everyone knows about their dislike; and
7. Some forumites find that they can not resist opening his threads, because you never know what type of entertainment and/or education [See 1-6 above] you will find there.
I admire his passion and value his opinions about coins as much as anyone else here. I think that he can hold his own with most folks when it comes to coin knowledge.

The numbers are different, but one link would be to the thread "SGS crossovers to PCGS?". Russ buys a 1967 Kennedy as SGS "SMS70" for $12.00, crosses it to PCGS MS67DCAM and sells it for $700.

A little ego stroking goes a long way.

<< <i>For the following reasons:
1. He is smart
2. He is respected
for his knowledge
3. He is forthright in his statements
4. He backs up his assertions
with sound reasons and facts
rather then merely opinions.
5.On a good day, he is somewhat likable.
I'll add 6 and 7.
6. He has a few groupies who love to argue with him on nearly every post regardless of if their argument has anything to do with that post.
7. He has to keep up his 28.77 posts a day somehow.
