I'm going to Gatlinburg, TN this weekend

We will be up there all next week. As I've talked about before there is a great card store up there called The Dugout. Tonya gets mad at me every year we go to Gatlinburg because she says I go to the card store too much image I think I went to the store 3 out of the 5 days we were there last year..lol

Anyway, if anyone needs anything or has been looking for something for a while that you just can't find, let me know and I will look while I'm at the store. Just let me know before Sunday night.

I love that store. Then again, I love the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area in general.

There is this really awesome restaurant in Pigeon Forge called Applewood you should try. My wife and I went there on our honeymoon. Both of us grew up going there. It's not the same as it was growing up, but it's still nice. There's a really cool area in Gatlinburg right off the strip called The Village. They've got a really great taffy place there. We actually just finished up eating all the taffy we bought from our honeymoon 2 years ago. Love that stuff. Have fun Matt!

Depending on the time of day, I can generally get there in 4 hours. I try to get there at least 3-4 times per year if not more.

Great suggestions. I couldn't agree more. I enjoy going to the Thomas Kinkade gallery there.

A favorite for me and my wife is a restaurant called the Brass Lantern. You can get what they call a tureen (sp?) of soup, which is enough to feed 2 people. We can usually get that with water and eat for under $10. Then again, Bennett's is probably my favorite place to eat ever. Of course if you're in Pigeon Forge, the corn chowder at the Old Mill is amazing.

    I need a vacation.

If you like nature photographs, visit a store Beneath the Smoke. It is a gallery of Ken Jenkins and his wonderful photographs. We are actually planning another trip there this summer for vacation. We stay at a campground not far from Gatlinburg.

lawnmowerman, where is that card store? I want to check it out this summer when we visit.

    thanks,

    Hi Matt,
I've been to that shop before your talking about. My Parents live about 30 minutes from Gatlinburg. If your there sometime in the summer you should check out a Smokies game. They are the AA org. for the Cardinals. They have a really nice park and a killer fireworks show after the game.

Here's something I thought was really cool down there. It's in Sweet-water TN. , lol it's one word but they wouldn't let me say it on here, go figure, it's a short drive from Gatlinburg. It's called the Lost Sea. It's this big underground lake. It's pretty awesome. It's like a mile under the ground in this cave. They take you out in a glass bottom boat. It has alot of interesting history to it, you have a guide that tells you all kinds of stories about the history of this cave. Something nice to do with the family. They have a website, you can check out the information about it.

I agree on the lost sea. I thought it was pretty interesting and is not that far form Pigeon Forge. Have not been there for a few years, but last time went to the comedy barn and did a dinner/ horse theatre show. Both were enjoyable.

<---- Live 45 minutes from Gatlinburg.

Should see some snow this weekend in that area, but not enough to worry about travel plans. Hard to believe, but I've never been to the Dugout. Where exactly in Gatlinburg is it?

Can you keep an eye out for any GU cards of Keith Hernandez, Clyde Frazier and that old running back that are all in that hair color for men commercial? Man, that dude had quite a white beard. He must've been a running back from the days of leather helmets. I'm trying to have a registry set of all three actor/athletes.

I told you not to use that picture of my grandmother as your avatar. Great! Thanks!

I love Bennett's. I think there's one in Memphis too, of course the hometown of Barbeque ribs. Do yourself a favor though Matt. Don't eat at Corky's in Pigeon Forge. Although the one's in Memphis are the best, this one does not at all live up to the Corky's standard. And it's really overpriced. I don't know if Tonya like's stuffed animals or your kids do, but in Pigeon Forge there's the Boyd's Bear Factory. It's really awesome for kids because they have a workshop where you can make one. When we went there with my wifes family, we took our nephew there and he loved it.

Boyd's Bears closed down. When we went a few months ago we couldn't believe it. The place was amazing though. They may have built a smaller building but the giant 4-story barn building was in the process of being remodeled. I think it may have been turned into a theater.

Apparently BB was turned into Dick Clark's American Bandstand, which has been closed until 2009 according to a site I found.

Being a 'tourist trap', everything in Sevierville/Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg that does not make money hand over fist will not last long. Dollywood and the Ripley's Aquarium are a virtual lock, but nothing else up there is guaranteed to last more than the season it opens.

I only live about 30 minutes from Pigeon Forge, and can give some helpful driving tips and other recommended eateries while you're there. They're just giving a little snow for Saturday, and in fact where I live has more of a chance of snow than up in the mountains! image

David, we will be there Monday about 4 pm till Friday afternoon. The girls love to see and play in snow ( me tooimage) so hopefully we will catch some up in the mts. The first year went there, we found a perfect liitle spot off to the side 7 miles up. We went sleding and built a snowman. It was great fun and we hope to repeat that image

mrbecker712, it's actually in Pigeon Forge. When you leave Gatlinburg and just get into Pigeon Forge, on the left you will see a Papa Johns in a strip mall. It's right in there. Nice big store and the owner Rick is a good dude. I bought tons of Emmitt cards last time I was there and he worked with me on the prices. Nothing beats buying cards in person. Be able to see it unlike on ebay.

I'll have to check it out sometime. There's a nice small shop here in Knoxville, but I'd like to find one a bit bigger with more unopened packs/boxes than this local one has to offer.

I live in Kingsport, about 45 min from there. My wife and I go 15-20 times a year. We have went so much, that we are tired of it. The only reasons we go now are for the big flea market in Sevierville, the Dugout in Pigeon Forge (me only, she hates it! image), and to Cooter's in Gatlinburg (Dukes of Hazzard museum owned by Ben Jones who played Cooter on the show.) I am a gigantic Dukes fan and have met all of the cast there and at Dukesfest. Sometimes, we would go down there and Cooter would be there working on the museum. He's a really cool guy and will talk to you forever. It's a nice place to get away to, plenty to do and great food!
