Do you guys think these jersey cards are fake?
I won these cards all from the same Ebay seller and just received them today. I have reason to believe the cards have been tampered with. I'm not saying the seller did it. Imo, the cards looks very suspect.
If you look at the edges around each cutout, they all exhibit the same chipping and damage to the black edges. Possibly from the tool used to stuff a swatch back in after the original was removed.
What do you guys think?

On this card the jersey is hanging out over the edges.

This one, the chipping is not as bad but it's still there

I mean, why else would the cards all have damage there? Those areas are not high wear areas like a corner or edge.

None of my swatch cards have those marks.
But, it is hard to see where the profit is in doing a swatch-switch.
I dunno.
The only way I would be concerned would be if any of the following took place:
1) The card says nothing about having game worn jersey
2) The jersey swatch insert have a piece of a patch
3) The card has different levels of value based on the jersey color.

Concern should be had if you see any loose fabric and/or cloth or strings sticking up above the frame edge. >>
The only card that has that would be the middle card. On the right side, the the fabric is hanging out above the edge

I wouldn't be worried about those three - people don't go around inserting single color swatches as fakes.

Having said that the Teams Thread has a LOT of chipping around the window. I have not noticing chipping like that on any of my game used cards.
Personally, I think they are find and would not worry. Perhaps a previous owner liked to feel his jersey pieces.

switching from a single color to multi-color. Also single 'white' is the worse you
can get. I think you're safe.

I paid $50ish for 4 cards. I don't remember the exact amount.

True , I think it is possible that they could have belonged to some little kid and maybe he either mistreated the cards or was thinking maybe the whole jersey was in there
Then his father beat the daylights out of him for wrecking his cards and figured they are not the quality he keeps and decided to sell them .
They're nice cards though , sweet score !
Do ya member these Lazers Mr. Lawnmowerman ?
And do ya know if any of these cards came with any memorabilia pieces in them ?
There's a lot of fake patches but everyone is right, they fake them to put multicolors in there, not white swatches

Vaild point. Here is a spin on that though. What if one of these had the nice swatch in it and it was pulled to put in a lower numbered, higher dollar card to make it "ultra rare"? Then a junk swatch was put back in the card and dumped on ebay.
One thing we all know about ebay is the fact that scammers will do anything and I mean anything to make a buck.

very good point indeed. But I would almost bet they get the fake pieces from cheap hats and patches you can buy seperately - that way they can get the exact piece of the patch that looks best

Yes sir . . . 96's
Those were some of my favorites ever . . .
I also used to love the Motion Vision cards, the cards that had like a 1 second worth of a play when ya tilted the card , I never hear much about those .

I only saw the Motion Vision that one year , I remember before that , there were ones that were similar , but they had a cardboard back and I didn't like those as much as when I saw the all tranparent ones , kinda like a little TV .
I remember thinking " These are gonna be a hit "
Not so much I guess, But I like em, they're really different than the regular cards so that was kinda exciting back in the days of old , when knights were bold and rubbas weren't invented

Matt,
the person doing that would put a swatch off a cheap jersey that he's got lying around to sell TWO patch cards.
You are right -- they will do anything to make a buck, which is why they'd put a fake patch inside if they were going to put anything inside it.

The motion vision cards rule. There was a complete set on ebay this week for $20...that almost tempted me.
If I remember right, they had like 2.4 seconds of "motion." Quite a breakthrough at the time, not so much the technology, but as a consumer product.
